Ray P wrote: Fri Apr 06, 2018 6:37 am Dave, just thought I would post you a link to the latest Broskie TCJ; he's got some stuff about improving Transcendent push/pull amps and a challenge for a builder. I thought it might be of interest?

Had a look but I think I'll need to read it again with the Beast or SOB schematic in front of me. It looks like he's looking at a fairly early version of Bruce's OTL circuit which makes sense as the later ones are proprietary.

I think it's highly unlikely that I'll be able to implement any mods as I've already completed populating the main PCB's, but it'll be interesting to do the analysis.

Winter is coming... so it's time to get back to the Beast build. Plus, the fact that I'm now once again in gainful employment and I've finally got around to selling off a couple of bits of gear, means I could finally transmit the order for the chassis panels off to Schaeffer this week.

No apologies for the Game of Thrones reference as my progress on this build is about as speedy as George R R Martin's.

In the meantime, I've finished off the Rod Elliott modules, although they'll need partial disassembling again when they're fitted to the chassis. The picture is poorer quality than usual as I only have my phone camera with me at the moment. Mains comes in one end from the main switch, the pink/grey twisted pair connects to the 12V trigger from the preamp. The PCB has the soft start circuit, the layer with the caps is the DC blocker, and the turrets the other side of that is the patch bay where all the transformer primaries and secondaries will be wired up (4 transformers).

Thanks all - I'm quite proud of them I have to say, they were a ruddy difficult thing to design and get right within the space constraints I had. Lots of cross-referencing with Mouser / Accugroup to see what was available in terms of machine screws / standoffs / spacers etc. Managed to re-use 4 of the 13mm spacers that were redundant after a previous design change. Thank heavens for CAD.

The panels have arrived from Schaeffer AG, manufactured to their usual faultless standard. All checks out well so far and the bend I asked for has been done exactly to spec.

Checking the circuit board holes lined up and that the PSU module and the smallest of the three toroids all fit, as per my CAD design...

Most of this weekend has been spent putting together one of the ventilated covers... getting the mesh into the side panel slots took some doing...

Bluddy hell. Image

I've only just recenty installed front panel designer again, was amazed to learn I haven't used it for about 10 years. The new program is nice. Shame my old custom object macros aren't compatible because they're so out of date. :(

You must get an incredible amount of satisfaction from doing such quality work. Amazing!

When this is in its finished form, I will definitely not be worthy.

Imagine the satisfaction I get from enjoying the fruits of his labour after having done nothing more strenuous than point and say things like, "Couldn't you mirror those so they look nicer?" and "I just used up the tinfoil, can you find a use for this heavyweight cardboard tube?"

And both perfectly reasonable suggestions.

What can I say? My parents were Depression babies. I am genetically hardwired to hoard anything that might be even remotely useful.

We've still got a 1000-watt motor from an old Cuisinart sitting in storage, just in case anyone we know decides to build something that needs one, though I'm pretty sure Dave will bin it before we move down south. Anyone who wants it better speak up before end of year.
