That's a bummer . Standard legs for my rack seem to be available only in 170mm and 250mm long. With the spacer washers depth between shelves is 173mm! Think I'll have to find somewhere to store the 300B monblock amps other than on the bottom shelf of my rack when the new mosfets arrive. Hey Ho.Nick wrote:Oh, and Colin, about 180mm with the feet.

You could use shorter feet on the amps.

And then there were two. It looks like SS amp corner there. with the f5, the mosfet prototype and a Samson PA amp I bought off Chris

Just put this p/a amp in in place of the el34 that's going to be pulled apart.
Also bought off Chris as a spare for just such an occasion
Think yours are nicer

Well I have spent 30+ years trying to assemble the best system I can afford aside from actually selling the stuff.
I have Nicks MF Ref phono amp, never to be beaten IMO and will never be improved in my lifetime anyway. Music First pre amp much the same one of the best I have ever heard or used. Various sets of speakers dependent on which room I use. PS Audio P10 which is a stunning bit of kit to power the system fed by LDA DC blocker mains lead.
Source wise I have dabble with plenty of turntables over a 30 year span, always returning to either a Techie or a 401. I have used or heard almost every brand over my lifetime, many were dire, even the new brands hailing from Germany make vinyl sound like CD, not good!
I recently heard a prototype turntable designed by 2 guys one I knew the other didn't, they came to my dem rooms recently with said prototype direct drive TT which Nick had designed a new power supply for, after hearing it that was it, I am waiting now for my own if and when the project ever nears completion.
All I really need now as my dream amplification, I have gone through everything from Quad 405's to Pioneer A400's used as power amps many years ago, never quite got what I wanted, even 300B's don't quite hit the sweet spot with all music, there is something missing.
The amplifier search is now over, seriously doubt I will ever hear or need anything else now these have arrived.

Aww Shucks.
One thing I learnt playing guitar is the un British thing of taking a complement for what it is instead of finding reasons to disagree in some coy and pointless fashion. So thanks Dave and Mark, yes, I am pleased with them. There is a little bit more I can get from them in terms of power (they run out at 170W, I sent the wrong spec to the tx winder, the intention is 220W), and detail and clarity. There is a fault on the power supply board that I had to work around (not checking that the models for a couple of devices were right). The next ones will be better, but it will do for the moment.

Just to be correct. it was the speed control system, not just the power supply. Just saying.which Nick had designed a new power supply for
