#1 General 3 Legged Reg PCB (Possible Group Buy?)
I need to get a regulated power PCB done for a project I'm doing and so I have designed a general layout to support the common all garden 3 legged variable reg plus all its infrastructure including diodes, voltage set resistors, space for up to 3 smoothing caps, safety diode and so on.
I'd like to get these down to £3-£4 per PCB but it depends upon numbers, anyone interested? Trust me, they are dead handy, I reckon I could use a few without trying.
Please let me know.

Looks very interesting Andrew, at that price I could be up for quite a few for stock. I'll ask the dumb schmuck questions - what sort of current and voltage do you reckon they're good for?
I'm not at home at the moment so can't check but how do they compare with the heater type pcb you did a while back? My recollection is they were a bit more sophisticated?

This is just a general LDO regulator's ecosystem for whenever you need a DC voltage, nothing remotely clever, just useful, job done. The idea is to take out some of the heavy lifting. It could power a DAC, run an op amp positive rail and so on. It is pretty much limited by the limits of the reg chip itself, providing you can get the heat away. I may toy with the idea of also supporting a diode bridge as well as the discrete diodes to get component price down for those who need the flexibility, you can put in less caps and use a cheap heatsink as other cost saving options; all depends on number of takers.

Hi Simon, the two other designs were specifically aimed at heating valves, with their special requirements, especially DHT and high gain valves used in phono and preamps; this is much mote general purpose.

Thanks Andrew, I thought you might say something like that . I can use a couple at least on the arduino project I'm messing with at the moment, so if 3 or 4 quid is the final price put me down for 10. What sort of numbers are you looking at to get the pricing down?

The PCB now supports a single large input cap (10,000uF) or 1, 2 or 3 slightly smaller diameter caps (5600uF) and either DO41 diodes (aka 1N400X types) or TO220 types for the soft recovery posh option. They are not mutually exclusive but more smaller parallel caps and fancier diodes would seem to go hand in hand; it does depend upon the application.
Current prices are roughly £200 for 50 so £4 each off (this assumes I get a prototype pair made fast-track in the UK first about and build up those in each of the two configurations to make sure there's no mistakes then order the final thing).
Size is a diminutive 80mm * 50mm * 1.6mm FR4 with 2oz copper and silk screen.
