#1 Green DAC TDA1541

Post by pre65 »

I've found my green DAC PCB, and wondered if anyone had the instructions for the NOS build.

According to Mr Lampizator (remember him ?) only half the board needs populating for this configuration.

Clive Messer did advise me ages ago but I've lost (or mislaid) the paperwork.

BUMP

Has anyone else here used the green PCB from Analogmetric ?

Seems the "green DAC" PCB is flawed (so I read somewhere) so that scuppers this project.

However, doing some research I found this item on Ebay, from Raindrop Hui.

It has minature output valves and transformers.

What do you DAC experts think of it ?

Hi Phil,

Without a schematic its a bit of a shot in the dark...It might be good, it might be pants. The rest of it comes down to how good the board layout is, to get the best out of a digital system means paying very careful attention to this, and it comes from experience and knowledge. Again, it might be good, it might be pants...

Only one way to find out

I like how this thread covers 2 years.

Confirmation it's not just me who thinks about stuff for ages. :D

I've gone and ordered one of those TDA1541 DAC kits.

It won't be here for a few weeks, but I'll try and get it fitted up before Owston. :)

I checked what transformers I would need for this DAC.

0-9v @ 1A X 2 ************************50va toroid 0-9v + 0-9v

9v - 0 - 9v @ 1A ****************** 50va toroid 0-9v + 0-9v in series.

0-18v @1A ************************** 120va toroid 0-18v + 0-18v in parallel

0-250v @30ma **********************2 X 20va 24v frame transformers back to back

So,no extra expense for transformers. :D

So it seems. :)

But, we all know how important the power supplies are.

I can't be 100% sure till the thing arrives, but I am prepared.

The first iteration may well be on a bit of MDF, preferably painted white, as in my wont.

Can't you derive regulated supplies from just one transformer!? :?

As I understand things, all the regulated supplies are on the PCB, it just needs those specified voltages in.

No worry to me as I already have enough transformers. :)

No doubt crude regulation, and as such seperate transformers make more sense.
