This morning I was searching for a bit of MDF to use for the new power supply bases.

I eventually found a bit that looked promising, and reasoned that cutting it in half would give me two bases big enough.

So I marked it out, and got my new second fix super sharp saw out to make the cut.

Unfortunately I managed to catch my little finger on the saw teeth so now there is blood oozing out. Can't afford to lose any as I donated blood on Monday.

Anyway, a plaster will fix the leak and then onwards.(copyright A Ivimey)

PS How is t'other Andrew progressing with the GM70 heater module boards ?

He's waiting for me to tell him the one he sent back to me is good .
Trouble is I need to bring the GK-71 sub-board downstairs again and wire it into the 300B amp board again for some tests ... but I've got a room full of speaker bits and half-finished jobs . However, I did say I'd try and get it running for a listen at the weekend if at all possible .

Good luck with the finger .

Fingers OK thanks.

I now have 6 bits of 1" MDF, 2 bases, 2 fronts and 2 backs. There are grooves routed to set the front / rear panels and all the sawn sides have been cleaned up with a straight router bit.

The current amps should sit atop each PSU if I've worked it out right.

I'm busy tomorrow, so no more action till Friday.

I have been making other progress, the news is that 18v AC was just not enough for operation in low mains areas, might be OK if your mains is consistently 247v like mine, but otherwise they will need 20v AC transformers, the good news is suitable items are available from the usual sources.

It's a long thread, and it's taking a long time to unfold - so there's a few issues I remember, and a few I keep forgetting.

What I do remember is that HF AC is neither wanted nor welcome. A nasty source of destructive influences that affects the sound.

What I forget constantly is whether any of these GK71 amps is going to be inspired by my RH813 and take at least some useful insights from there - or is it just another classical trial and error passtime?

Interestingly enough, my ideas do create proselites elsewhere, particularly if not solicited and when people omit mentioning where did they get the inspiration from. For an example, check out Thomas Mayer's blog with a "convertible" 45 to 300B amp boasting switches to select voltages and current - and then go check my RH-TTA to see what the real McCoy looks like. My ideas are there for the benefit of DIYers, but I like to be credited...

Strangely enough, the comment about the similarity to my RH-TTA has never made it through moderation on his blog... not even to be answered explaining how the idea is not new and everyone did it 70 years ago. I wonder why?

Slow progress (as usual) on the monoblock PSU conversion.

I've been cutting and routing 1" MDF and have got the base, front and back done. I'm stuck now 'cos my MDF sealer had dried up, but another tin is on its way.

The current monoblock amp units will sit atop each PSU, fixing arrangements to be worked out.

The picture shows progress so far. The alloy plate is to house the IEC connector and those plugs/sockets for the connecting wires.

This afternoon I found 6 oz of enthusiasm, so not wanting to waste any of it I had a few hours on the PSU bases.

I've got one waiting for the adhesive to dry (front and back panels to base) and then I can fit the alloy side panel.

The mounting plate for the two 6D22s diodes will be attached to the alloy side panel, but the position is still being calculated.

I purchased a Bosch battery drill/screwdriver the other day, it came with two Lithium iron batteries and it's a wonderful tool to aid my builds. Love it. :D

Cool !
Sometimes things seem to go slow, but I've got better about not worrying about this and appreciating the activity I'm doing in its own right.
Should be a very impressive system by the looks of it .

As much as that? Image

I recently got a Bosch driver, mainly to do all the screws for when I'm removing and reassembling the body panels on the X10. Also got the right-angle attachment. Reckon it must reduce the time taken by 70%!

Still plodding along.

I've decided the Chinese sockets for 6D22s are totally crap, and thanks to Steve S I will be replacing them with some better ones.

I'm still sorting out component placing and fixings, and soon will be ready to strip everything off and give the obligatory coat of white gloss, my trademark.

I was struggling to sort out some feet for the PSU bases, but I've now got some big "bun" feet coming from Ebay.

Next bulletin should include a photo.

All this talk of 'stripping off' and 'buns' is making me a bit queasy .
I'm not sure I want to see the next photo .... :confused3:

How much.

Oh yeah I got some satin from B & Q last week, 4 cans worth, can't remember exactly 40 - 50 quid? Plus brushes and a small roller

Here is the current view.

Should strip out and prepare for undercoat and white gloss soon. :)

The main toroidal and diode board (hybrid bridge) are from the 833a project, which is being upgraded.
