DHT Heater using VCCS - PCB or Kit (Possible Group buy)
#1021 Re: DHT Heater using VCCS - PCB or Kit (Possible Group buy)
When mounting the large boards to a chassis or copper sheet, what size of nylon support pillars should be used? I've been using 6mm and they work but just feels like there's tension between the transistors (which screw flat to the copper) & the board (which is held off by the 4 pillars).
Would 5mm be better?

Depends on how far the legs were thru the holes when you soldered the joints as to the best length to use. Its probably best not to stress the solder joints, if 6 is too big try filing some down a bit, if that works, try 5mm.

From memory I soldered the legs after the board had been fixed in position. Dummy run that is, without the heatsink compound.
I used 5mm thick nylon spacers.

I have some boards from Andrew (thanks) and will be putting in an order soon for components (after I check what I have in stock).
Anyone need any of the components for the boards? I doubt there will be enough interest to make any price difference but you never know.

Hi Andrew.
This is probably a long shot - do you have any kits or boards still available?
Or does anyone have any that they want to sell?
Cheers

I think I have two of the 'large' PCBs that I can help you with if Andrew can't.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Thanks Ray
I’m actually after the standard ones at the moment. I can’t remember what the large ones are capable of, let me read back through the thread and see if I could use them elsewhere. I’ll get back to you ASAP.
Cheers

No problem Max. Physically the boards are about the same size; the 'large' one has extra filter caps and the active devices are mounted to a seperate chassis/heatsink whereas the standard board has onboard heatsinking.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Large ones will do 3A , maybe more if Andrew/Nick could advise. Small ones do max 1.5A .

Large ones do GK71 heaters (3 amp ish) but need a big heatsink.IslandPink wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 11:58 amLarge ones will do 3A , maybe more if Andrew/Nick could advise. Small ones do max 1.5A .

How many, Max? I have the so called "small" PCB in stock?

So the large will do a pair of 300b, a pair of 45s, a single 2A3, but not quite a 211.....

Sorry for all the questions......is the only difference between the boards the extra thermal capacity (large heatsink)
