In the end I went for a 1R 9A version.

This afternoon I finally got round to lashing up a balanced power supply, using one of the two 1KVA toroidal isolation transformers, I bought off Phil a year ago.
It has a 40A, double-pole RCD on the secondary, courtesy of Screwfix. It trips when tested, instantly taking out both 120V phases, so that'll do nicely.
It's only on a piece of plywood at the moment, but I've made damn sure there are no exposed terminals anywhere.
Didn't trip the house sockets MCB on switch on, so I haven't bothered with a thermistor on the primary side at the moment.
I can't be arsed to drag it out to photograph it so this shadowy picture will have to do:

I've have the DAC, phono stage, turntable, and both power amps plugged into it.
The system has been running on the BMU for last hour and let's just say I won't be going back to single ended electricity.
Push-pull mains rules from now on

It'll definitely be getting a proper enclosure and all that jazz: a keeper methinks.

Well done Steve, nice to see the transformer getting used.

I must dig out my lash up and see if I can notice any difference this time.

I wouldn't be without the version I use.

Yes, it's interesting the amount of muck that has been cleaned off the window, and the drop in the system noise floor to inaudibility is another bonus.
My mains is pretty crap but I didn't realise how bad it was until I built this balanced power supply.
The couple of hours it took to build, appears to have been time well spent. :)

Yes the drop in noise floor was the most obvious thing to me.

Yes, Neal, you should. I never got around to doing mine and passed it on to Ray, but in the meantime, I got an overspeced 2Kv Airlinks to which I've fitted a DC blocker board and I've not looked back. It brought a significantly dynamic improvement to sound and has simply been fit and forget ever since. It really does make sense.

Yes, I would agree with your evaluation there Greg.
Overall dynamics, of both the macro and micro variety, are significantly better.

Speaking in musical terms, there is, as they say, just more music.

Now get your objectivists test equipment addicted members here to show you charts and screen shots to explain what you hear - best of luck

Well I've had my test gear out and it looks as if it is all to do with the sub space damping field the BMU emits.
It aligns all the quarks in the same direction and wouldn't work at all without the new Heisenberg compensator I developed last week on the back of an envelope, because those quarks are devious little buggers and have to be brought to book, otherwise it would be a waste of time.
I' ve already put the charts and graphs on this page, but you have to slightly alter your reality phase dimension in order to be able to see them. I can sell you one of those dimension phase shifters for a couple of million if you want to make the charts visible.

Theres one chart here:

And another below:

Those should make everything clearer.

after gluing up a chassis for a customer build and having some down time for the afternoon i decided to make a start on a case for the balanced psu.

decided I wasn't going to buy anything for the case so Iv'e used some scrap sheet material leftover from other things. Knew it would come in for something.

this is where we are at.

ImageBalanced psu case unfinished by anthony cresswell, on Flickr

box is 18mm ply, 13" x 13" x 6" tall. I wanted the sockets on the front and the double pole breaker where i could get at it so its fitted into the side panel. Wants some filling and sanding, then I'll see what veneer I have left for it
