#1 Testing 13E1s...

Post by jack »

I've been wondering for a while about how to test/match 13E1s on a Hickok 539C...

Anyone tried measuring these on a Hickok?

Cheers

I doubt if it deals with the heater.

You reminded me I have two of these which Paul de Raymond LeClerk sold me with the idea of using them triode connected as output valves. he even supplied curves.

It was of course a dumb idea as nothing sounds worse than a high transconductance valve.

I might use them as series pass regs though, which they are eminently suited to.

Steve may disagree with you there Paul :-)

What has someone built a 13e1 amp before me? I bin thinking of it since 1998. But now satisfied with rationalising reasons not to.

I bet he won't build that GM100 I haven't yet got round to first though!

Well I have nothing working and haven't even found my soldering iron (so I bought another on ebay and waiting for it)

So I am here in spirit not in body.

Nice to hear from you again Paul
Ere!

I have a 13E1 in tetrode mode with OPT secondary to grid feedback, which is driven by a C3g in pentode mode with an unbypassed cathode resistor.

Two Hi-gm valves and feedback an all. No triodes and it sounds rather good. :)

I'm heavily into single-ended pentodes these days.

Cool, lets form a club, to join you have to have succesfully not built a GM100 amp :-)

I didn't build one, but it didn't work. Damn.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Doctor Who nicked mine before I could finish it.
Said he needed to help out Flash Gordon and could he borrow it pretty please?
Never saw it again.

Does that mean I'm in?

Ah well that is a different kettle of fish. I bet it sounds good.

there are a lot of interesting pentodes also.

That direct heated pentode/beam tet which l;ooks like a px25 would be fun I bought 4 or perhaps 6 once but never got round to anything. then there is the gm71 was it? or gk71? I have some, and then the 813 of course.

Loads of possibilities.

I moved on from the 813 triode connected because I prefer the silky sound of the 211 compared to it and also prefer the 211 to the gm70.

But the pentode sound with feed back is a whole lot different. I bet it is a lot better as originally designed.

I would like to invite you to my club but you have to own the GM100's that you haven't got round to building the amp for.

I could sell you mine but then I couldn't be in the club and you would be the only member instead of me.
