I just spent about 2 hours trying to find a wiring diagram for a Bulgin IEC inlet socket.
It seems amazing Bulgin can't provide simple advice on what to do with the switch tags, nor seemingly can anyone else...
I had only used the Double-pole ones before on amps, this one I bought for the tweeter amp is a single pole one.

There are three tags ( marked 1, 2, 3 ) on the switch. 1 and 2 appear to connect or disconnect with the switching - so I assume the post-fused live goes to one of those, and comes out of the other.
The third one - do I connect neutral to that one, or earth, or nothing ?

OK, the link below is the best I can find. The diagram ( answer ) near the bottom of the page suggests the switch pin that doesn't connect to the other two should be attached to neutral.

if you looked on the RS page you linked...next to datasheet is 'Power Entry Modules Product Datasheet'.......

Yes, thanks, I went through that document and saw those diagrams, but I couldn't understand enough about what they were supposed to be telling me. After I digested the wiring pic in link above, I started to understand the datasheet see-saw diagrams. I suppose the little rectangle is a voltage source is it ? - does that mean Live goes to pin 2 ?
I really think they could spell it out a bit clearer, given the safety implications of wiring up a mains switch.

That little rectangle is a resistor? Next to the round neon lamp symbol?

So yeah, live to pin 2, then neutral on pin 3 so the lamp lights, and then output from pin 1, to wherever. Simples!

Maybe there is a resistor too - but I'll go with live to pin 2 and pin 1 to the amp.

To answer your question, if you want the neon to work, then neutral to 3.

Post fused to 1, 2 out to amp.

But I don't think it matters is 1 and 2 are swapped.

I got the bit about 3 to neutral. Is there a reason for the 1/2 arrangement you favour vs. what I was going to do ? - I was just going to got in the kitchen to do it !

Well, the diagram suggests that the neon between 2 and 3 is also switched in which case it will make no actual difference. I guess it was based on the idea that when off live was connected internally to less things when connected to 1.
