Re: Cable suggestions for phonostage innards
Please be aware of the tiny gauge wire in your cartridge usually copper - I admit an MC will have a few feet tops I suspect and possibly less - MM types have tens of feet in their windings I gather. I haven't done it, but looking at the usually thin and fine circuit track on many phono stage boards,...

Re: DIY LS3/5a..."This is the BBC speaker-ing...."
They're not at all - and I've compared them directly. The Harbeths have a stonking midrange and excellent soundstaging when playing in free space, very smooth, and the high frequencies are 'coloured sweet' rather than 'spiced.' Wonderful on brushed cymbal-work. I heard the Falcon 3/5A last weekend a...

Re: yet another boring one trick pony turntable build
With audiophile margins at ten times (or more) the build costs, it would be astronomical price. I mean, look at the already expensive SME price hikes since their take-over and subsequent appointment of extra distributors (I think) and also AVI the same with their dinky active speakers now they're ba...

Re: yet another boring one trick pony turntable build
No good for any AT's apart from possibly the AT-F7, but a Hana or DL110 should be fine. The extensive fluid pivot damping/support should take care of any potential instability - I think.

Re: yet another boring one trick pony turntable build
Given how nice this project 9cc arm is im intrigued by the 12" 12cc, 10.5 g effective mass for that one. Id be willing to bet it would be an absolute cracker How to justify 800 quid........... I don't think a major resonance in the midrange to add some 'zing' or 'shout' (HFW tests) is a good i...

Re: Double rectification and smoothing - Linn LK1/Dirak...
It was about me trying to get my head round something Linn did as an 'upgrade' to the complex looking LK1 preamp and also the active Tunebox unit (my cheapo LK1 still tetchy if left for a couple of weeks unpowered and it ain't the back-up battery or the control board caps that needed replacing, so i...

Double rectification and smoothing - Linn LK1/Dirak...
Possibly silly and OTT Linn stuff (usual for them I gather) but I wanted to ask a question please? To start with... After some persuasive friendly bullying, I got a cheap non-running LK1 preamp as it appears to make (in working condition) a passable cheap MC phono stage if used from the tape outputs...

Re: Grounding boxes ?
'Coherent' sells grounding boxes I believe and his friends on another forum have got into them, so I'm afraid that immediately put me off! Is it better to have a separate ground plane for your stereo? Looking at some of the total foo for sale, I'm afraid I placed these things in with that, while mak...

Re: Dental matters.
If we all flossed properly, we'd have no need for Hygenists - perhaps you could tell them that!!! patronising cows, some of them and I fell out with my last one as she was over-familiar to someone nearly pension age and the water cleaner she used hurt my ears, causing her to resort back to a good di...

Re: DIY LS3/5a..."This is the BBC speaker-ing...."
I couldn't stand the effers, not then nor now. One note bass, shrill upper mids and tinsel for top. I heard so many right from 1975, it must be me that's wrong! This brought back memories though of when Audiomaster (Robin Marshall) made them (with many headaches along the way when batches failed tes...

Nick, how different in terms of 'heavy duty-ness' and layout is this board as used by YNWOAN and linked to on Audioflat? http://sjostromaudio.com/pages/index.php/hifi-projects/187-dct03-the-dc-trap-high-end-style-heavy-duty http://sjostromaudio.net/shop/mains-circuits/61-dct03-dc-filter-for-toroidal...

Re: Longdog Audio PH-1 and HA-1 Review
Ok. I don't use an extender... I got into the habit opf using cable ferrites decades ago and still continue the habit on mains leads. One or two rf-style interconnects I made up seem to respond to clip-on ferrites to as audio interconnects (Mark Grant) and an extremely thick Ecoflex 10 cable i mnade...
