Re: The Newton 300B
Modelling is now completed, down to literally evey nut and bolt. The inside is expected to look something like this, but with a few more wires and resistors obviously.

Re: The Newton 300B
You might be OK if they are not electrolytic capacitors, but I got caught out once by not realising the stud was coupled to the negative terminal. Are you OK for the stud mounting nuts ? If not measure the size and let me know. Could possibly be M10 or M12. Interesting! I don't think that's...

Re: The Newton 300B
Big enough, how are you going to mount it ? See third picture, post 1. There’s a threaded stud on each one, that goes through the rear panel and they’ll sit horizontally.. Half the interior space is taken up with these. The hours of Tetris/cad work that’s gone into these has been figuring out how t...

Now that's a proper capacitor.

A PDF of the schematic (which is slightly better resolution than the JPEG I posted above) can be viewed by following this link.

Re: Symmetric Reichert 300B push-pull
Very nice. What model libraries are you using for the valves and xfrmrs? I'm using the Ayumi library for the valves. The transformers were generated from a spreadsheet that someone put out there a while back (Transformer Models Rev4.xls), you put in the parameters and it generates the model for you.

The Newton 300B
I thought I'd start a new thread for the build. Here's where I'm at so far. To recap, here's the schematic. It's a version of Lynn Olson's "Symmetric Reichert" which I don't think has actually been built. The coupling cap values have been increased and the driver valve stage swapped out fo...

Re: Since when were valves "restricted items"??
Just got the set of 4 x NOS Raytheon 6V6GT they had up for sale. Cost more than the 5V6's but I'm just so done with running the gauntlet of international sales for now. At least I won't have to pay VAT and import tax. I was quite tempted by a set of 4 coke-bottle shaped WWII-era 6V6G's from Italy bu...

Re: Since when were valves "restricted items"??
I see Billington on ebay have them but they're £25 a pop. Dunno if that's good or bad. They're always worth a call. And it would seem it's an ebay shipping issue. I've recently had in the last few months valves from Russia/Ukraine, dampers and MV rectifiers from USA no issue except VAT sometimes; l...

Since when were valves "restricted items"??
So the order of 5 x Emerson 5V6GT valves I ordered from an eBay seller in the States has apparently been confiscated by agency or agencies unknown. The order had not arrived when expected, and I queried this with the seller. The reply came back today that the "items were deemed restricted"...

Re: GZ34 sanity check
Yep, the damper diodes can stand that voltage between the heater and cathode, the indirectly heated normal rectifiers can't, and the directly heated has no cathode. Also make sure when you get the transformer wound that the heater winding is spec'd to run at the voltage you are intending to use it ...

Re: GZ34 sanity check
So I'm right in other words  I was looking at the Olson drawing and suddenly thought - hang on, with a GZ34 that's a short circuit waiting to happen. To be faiir, it had probably been quickly edited to use a recifier instead of the diodes and doesn't specify any link between the cathode and hea...

GZ34 sanity check
I believe I have this right but just want to "check my working". For my 300B project, the circuit I'm basing it on has the power supply wired thus: https://user.fm/files/v2-ccc99225a015390e67adf49750d91365/Screenshot%202020-08-16%20at%2013.44.19.png The power supply on the right uses the 6...
