Linkwitz LXmini
As I mentioned on my SLOB project thread, the active crossover I'm considering as an option was originally developed by Nelson Pass as an analogue alternative to using MiniDSP with the Linkwitz LXmini DIY speakers so, inevitably, I got side-tracked into reading about the the speakers. The LXmini is ...

Re: SLOB project
Following up on the Nelson Pass active crossover, yesterday I installed Micro-Cap and downloaded the file that defines the Linkwitz LXMini filters, for which this crossover was originally developed. Just played around with changing values in the LXMini filters to explore the software a little and it...

Re: Nothing In Particular
I suspect Ray will go out on his bike to have a closer look ! Well, I am planning to ride tomorrow and probably Christmas day too - with Judy being unwell we're having a very quiet time with just the two of us at home, no visitors and no visiting, so I thought it would be good to try and be pro-act...

Re: SLOB project
Simple bit first; no, there s no GUI to play around with DSP settings in HQPlayer; you need to use other software to create a file with the required settings that HQPlayer then uses during playback. Of course the 'other' software packages will have GUI interfaces so while you can't adjust things on ...

Re: SLOB project
Mark, have I cottoned onto your suggested direction correctly; bandwidth limit the OTL amp via it's output cap so that the Fast-10S can run full range without any crossover? Then just integrate the bass unit to suit the roll-off of the Fast-10S - that sounds like it might just need a passive lo-pass...

Re: Squeeze box down!
But Roon sounds familiar... Could it have been described as useless when categorizing and listening to classical music... No! If you have previously experienced Roon you wouldn't have forgotten it - it really is a major step forward in capability/functionality. Give the free trial a whirl when you'...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.
Good looking terrain Mark, but probably a nicer walk when its not waterlogged. I've just got back from a ride; there's extensive flooding out on the levels so I headed uphill omto the Quantocks to avoid the worst of the wet stuff but still found several places with standing water across the road, fo...

Re: Tangent CDII....Nice.
There's a matching amp too, called, wait for it, 'Ampster'.
May not be a good partnership with your 13E1s though...

Re: SLOB project
I've been working on some CAD drawings for the bass unit 'cradle' (i.e. the side panels, bass slot panels, etc) this afternoon. I'm planning on the 'cradle' being machined from 18mm birch ply. I want the actual baffle to be removable so I'm on the lookout for some neat but discrete fixings to attach...

Re: SLOB project
It would be a shame to use an active crossover into a super-transparent OTL amp and a FR driver - you're limiting your sound quality from the start. ....a 1000uF output cap gives an optimal LF response of about 200Hz but it's only 3dB down at 20Hz? I don't understand what you mean by optimal respon...

Re: SLOB project
I think you might be wise to experiment with a high-pass for the Lii driver on OB, even if it's only at 100 or 120Hz. As you can see from the plot I showed on the first page, it will go down below 60Hz , where the excursion could get quite significant. Their recommended enclosure would limit the ba...

Re: SLOB project
I think this is closely related to Ray’s SLOB project. Following this thread raised the question about the best x-over again. Some years ago I tried an OB with the PM6A in combination with my La Scala bass horns but always felt that the speed was lacking behind the bass. So I tried a midBLH with th...
