All the dogs in the neighbourhood were barking with me doing it inside so I don't think it would have been appreciated if I did it in the garden.

Well this first time speaker builder is now slightly confused following an evening of testing (and ear bashing). First of all, using my test disk and spl meter, I tested the two Goodmans and then Coral separately without any filters. For each reading I set the output to 2.0V (2.83V was unbearably lo...

Well the routing went well and even though I had a thick head this moring the baffles for the Goodmans are now finished. I'm going to wire the Goodmans drivers in parallel, if nothing else because if I do go with a passive XO, the inductors would have to be 4 times as large if they were in series. I...

Managed to make a jig to go onto the bottom of the router in order to cut the round baffle holes. Being my first time using a router, I must admit that I'm quite chuffed with the results when preparing the smaller holes for the Corals. This weekend should see the 12" holes for the Goodmans fini...

Al, I have a pair of as new Reflektor 6p3s which I think are the same or at least similar (older style with higher base). I'm not at home at the moment but I think that theye are the same as these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6P3S-6L6-6L6GT-REFLEKTOR-MATCHED-PAIR-TUBES-100_W0QQitemZ140349734657QQcmdZViewI...

The build is progressing slowly. Steve kindly agreed to meet me on Tuesday so I now have the full compliment of loaned drivers and need to think about the driver holes in the baffle. Have loaned a router and have a plan on how to make these neat. Drivers will be mounted from the rear with the fronts...

If you were looking from the top at a section of the bass box, it would resemble the letter H (or at least that's my limited understanding).

I wasn't meaning to buy the wood this morning but you know how you get carried away. So what did I get? 18mm ply for the two baffles and 12mm ply for the rest. Just one question before I start drilling and screwing it all together. I seen on Martin's H-frame project, he moved the H-frame baffle forw...

Max, Initially I propose to use the Behringer as an active XO to try a multitude of XO settings but if drivers are relatively matched in terms of sensitivity might well try a passive XO. Initial tuning will be by ear but given all of the published OB articles, I shouldn't be too far off with my init...

I think I will use mdf at least for a start and if a sucess, rebuilding using some good quality BB ply if these were to become a permanent feature. I already had a sketch for Steve's proposal as phase 2 so 2*12" in a H-frame it is. I will have a removable shelf between the two bass drivers and ...

Thanks to Steve for offering to loan me some drivers. As a result, the 'OB' design is now going to be based on the Goodmans 51 and Coral Flat 6 drivers rather than my initial intentions of using the Eminence/Fostex combination. Being domestically constrained to a narrow baffle, I have lost bass sens...

Well I picked up my Behringer DCX2496 on Thursday, received the XLR/RCA adapters today (so cheap it wasn't worth making up special cables) and managed to have a play this afternoon. It can be configured to accept an S/PDIF input so wired up the outputs direct to my Rocky amp. The other useful thing ...

Just looked at the curves again. With the Alpha-12a, a first-order augmentation from around 80Hz will give approx a -3dB point of 40Hz. The added gain at 50Hz will be around 4dB and the compound output at 30Hz falls to 84dB/W from a nominal 90. The Beta-12a requires a little more help due to it roll...

Scott, When you say stress, is that because it is under the driver's resonant frequency? What do you mean by 'headroom' when you talk about speakers or is this suggesting it will use up considerably more of the amplifier power? You're right in that the 30Hz is calulated assuming a +15dB gain. It sou...
