Re: The Quackery Thread
These might have been seen before, but IMHO as an exemplar of unadulterated shite, this take some beating... http://bybeetech.com Jack Bybee’s Quantum Purifiers were originally developed for military applications, many of which are still highly classified. These amazing devices have been used for ye...

Re: 6B4G - The Resurrection Shuffle
Merlin Blencoe's power supply book is out of print now (seen Jack is looking for a copy on DIYAudio) but Merlin once posted it was because there were so many errors in it he wasn't happy with it. I'm sure most of it is just fine, but that comment alone has made me a little uneasy about its content....

Re: BNC v RCA
I have looked on google for a reputable seller from the USA but who knows what i'll end up with lol. You never know, NVA Chords could end up in my system! who'd have thought that a month or two ago!!! The equivalents of Farnell in the USA are Newark (owned by Element14, same group as Farnell), Digi...

Re: BNC v RCA
Wow, thanks for the detail. I'll definitely give it a go. Just need to see how the sockets can be integrated into my setup. Not a lot of room in my phonostage where the rcas are. Small point - genuine RG316/U is not cheap - the purity of the materials used must be very high and the required manufac...

You will have seen SMA connectors on wireless routers and access points - they are the small RF screw connectors used for the aerials. There are two types: SMA (used for most stuff) and RP-SMA (used for WiFi aerials). RP-SMA has the male and female parts reversed with respect to SMA (RP means Revers...

Re: I'm Officially a Fat Bastard
Actually, in men, it's the visceral (as opposed to subcutaneous) fat that's most dangerous - men tend to store fat internally round the organs, women store it on the thighs & arse. I had my visceral fat measured (along with a 100 other things) yesterday - that's what I'm concentrating on reducin...

Why do you need one - will you use it enough? The price is only going to come down and getting spares can be... interesting... Have you considered joining a MakerSpace? Or using on-line cutting services, or a local college etc. (I use a MakerSpace - they have 100W & 150W beasts, and if they brea...

Dead since March, the thread LIVES AGAIN! Then I have another SERIOUS challenge for myself next year, that'll require 8 months of training plus several new skills... Learning to ride a motorcycle ? No, I used to, then my best friend and his girlfriend were killed on one, then my stepbrother was kil...

Absolutely ker-nackered. It's 32C and 75% humidity, so feels like 42C (apparently). It was toasty - I had my own private ecosystem by the end. Felt slightly faint, so next time will hydrate, take salt and eat a banana first.... No Cheese n Marmite Sarnie? Madness! I can send one next time you're ou...

Re: modifying an old philips cd160
Sockets allow you to swap the opamps around, but they do have an effect on the signal. Maybe not as big as that of changing the opamp, who knows? It's another variable in the equation.
You are unlikely to damage modern opamps by soldering with a decent iron (40W, fine tip) and a fairly steady hand.
