The thing with the hybrid bridge like I use,and the way Steve did it with a GZ rectifier is the slow start up which will bring the diodes up to max without a "jolt" ! (?)

Or would an inrush limiter on the transformer primary help ?

Are their any bad things about inrush limiters ??

Max-I only recently got the BY255 so have not actually used them in anger ! On the 845 project I used EM516 in series pairs as part of a hybrid bridge with two damper diodes (6D22S) and the HT was 950V Never heard about balancing resistors on bridges before ! Still got quite a few of those EM516 as ...

On my 829b project which is being built now I will not now be using a cap before the choke even though the volts will be down a gnats. I have made space for one though just in case. This will be the first time I have used a choke input PSU and hope it will do the bizz. Will find out by early ...

Wire !

Don't like PCBs personally, much prefer tagboards or self made custom designed highly insulative turret tag boards made from plastics like PTFE or Delrin.

Hi Steve-Your cap might not be high enough volts ? That's not a million miles away from the power supply I'm putting together at the moment. I have used two 470uf 350v low ESR caps in series each with 220k 2W bypass resistors. And a bleeder resistor as per the choke input thread. The 260G is ...
