Yes please Mr I, I'd like to hear a WAD2 (and lots of other phono's then decide what to build if my Lite Audio phono is that bad in comparison :) ) If not I'll be open to offers if it blows Nicks monster into the weeds  I came away from WF with the motivation to build my first pair of speakers....

It's not that easy to hear a number of shop bought phonos together let alone so many nice DIY jobs . Yeah, thats what I'd like to hear too Simon. I bought and made up my Chinese Ebay Valve stage before I knew any of you chaps so it was a gamble, it works but I'd like to know how it compares to what...

Sounds like a lots going on in DIY Phono-stage land. I like the sound of a simple project, specially if it could better what I've already got, the MC i/p is very noisy as well-discussed before. Without the loan of Phil's step ups I'd be stuffed.

 Any chance at Owston we could compare a few phono amps? I love to hear what mine is/isn't doing compared to well established stages like the WAD2/WD3 and Nicks sooper dooper. I use this all valve 'Lite-audio' LS37 Phono pre which along with Philip's loaned step up's is my only reference. DTB

I dunno about the 'cd recording' being poor Si, it might be the actual recording done at source or even the mix. There's a few good examples out there would bare that out, not your cuppa tea problee but Metallica's '...and justice for all' LP is awfully mixed/recorded IMHO. It's like someones done a...
