Sounds like a lots going on in DIY Phono-stage land. I like the sound of a simple project, specially if it could better what I've already got, the MC i/p is very noisy as well-discussed before. Without the loan of Phil's step ups I'd be stuffed.

I dunno about the 'cd recording' being poor Si, it might be the actual recording done at source or even the mix.
