Straight-in as we discussed yesterday regarding best points to tap-in .

Too late ! - got time on my hands while at home - so ordered 10-off 330nf/100 of the old type. Hopefully I'll get them soon ( tomorrow maybe ) and will build up a board and report back . As you say it's unlikely to make a difference, but there've been a number of 'unlikely' effects on this developme...

Thanks for the links . It would be the difference between 19.1V and 19.5V in my case as that's what the Sony supply delivered. Whether this is enough to affect upper bass tone, I'm not sure . Having looked at the datasheet of the new ones, I have some concerns about the construction . What does silv...

Meanwhile I've been listening . I wasn't sure at first, but after about 2.5 hrs running-in, it's sounding very good. The top-end of the GK-71 with this supply is much better than an SMPS alone. None of the edgy sharpness I had with the Sony supply a few weeks ago. Sounds great on violins and little ...

I'm not doing that job again until I have a 10k PCB pot . 19.1V is fine for my purposes and within the range specified on the GK-71/GM70 data sheets . Now I need to understand how I previously wired-in the GK-71 'annexe' board to the main 300B breadboard . I may get it done tonight, but more likely ...

After the effort you put in to design & provide these kits, I can easily forgive you this small mistake, and the small finger burns I just picked up removing and swapping the two resistors on the PCB :D
Currently running at 19.1V into the GK-71 .
The laptop supply is only just warm .
Superb !

Somewhere there is a discrepancy regarding Rx and Ry . If I look at your formula a couple of posts back, I'd expect Rx to be higher than Ry for the higher filament voltages ; however when I look at your instructions in the 'Stacks' section, it seems Ry goes higher than Rx for the higher filament vol...

After what he went through with that Quad-bike crash a few years ago, there was probably a bigger risk of a stroke in the future . I learned this because an ex-colleague of mine from Carl Zeiss was involved in a crash on his bike about 10-12 years ago, which put him in a coma for a short while with ...

You're not wrong - they are in there ! Thanks again . Right , OK . Good news - finished all the items , mounted to heat-sink and connected it up with SMPS and GK-71 in place, for test in the kitchen . Bad news : 23.8V in, 2.7V out :? That's annoying . Was hoping to hear it this evening . I'll have t...

I'm not sure I understand the answer .... :(
Do I put a resistor in there ( if so what value ? ) or do I put in a piece of wire ?

Now, I need info on this bit. Is Rs a sense resistor and therefore in series with the filament - for measuring the current ?
Can I bridge this with wire if i don't need it ?

Andrew : Couple of questions : (i) what values of Rx , Ry should I be using for 20V-out on the big boards ? (ii) If I'm using an SMPS at 24V DC coming in, could you just confirm where the best place for the +V would be to 'tap in' to the board. The ground connection/plane is fairly easy to see on th...

It's a shame I missed the action, but I knew I'd only be there late, and we did have a very nice weekend with a family party for my niece . It was nice to have a brief catch-up with a few of you, and some in-depth discussion about phono stages with Nick and Andrew, plus some speaker discussions. I'm...
