Re: Nothing In Particular

Yeah, but Cat6 is not intended to carry any amps whatsoever Not so - it's explicitly designed for PoE (power over Ethernet) as is CAT 5. PoE is increasingly used to power embedded devices, e.g. VoIP desk phones, CCTV cameras, WiFi access points etc. CAT6 allows 802.3at high power PoE (called PoE+) ...

Warming up nicely here - Summer is coming (though still a few weeks away) :)

Not likely to rain for another 6 to 8 months...

Re: Audio Talk meet Owston, Doncaster, 10&11 june 17

Sunday saw the appearance of Little and Large - the micro-fonkens vs Ali's OB Long live uFonkens! Mine were lost in that room, specifically in the general hubub that was going on. I should have been better prepared :( Love them in our kitchen, though - they front an RPi2B+/WiPi with an IQaudIO Digi...

Re: Hot and dry holiday destination.

There is irony in real life... I was back in the UK last week for the annual European InfoSecurity shindig - the main information security conference outside of the USA. When I left Dubai, the temperature was pushing 40C during the day (it'll be 50C in a few weeks) - the UK was lovely and cool. So, ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I am concerned that ISIL and their like are/will be taking advantage of encrypted communication abilities to help them in their evil deeds. I really don't care if government agencies wish to access my messages or internet use. I believe that if lives are saved then it's worth the lack of privacy. I...

Re: Nothing In Particular

The is a some serious discussion in the security world around whether BT routers are completely compromised.

See http://cryptome.org/2013/12/Full-Disclosure.pdf

Personally, I'm not convinced, but I don't use BT modems just to be sure...

Great. Make sure that you use complex generated passwords... Different for each site.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Not sure what sort of London I'm coming back to... Just really really angry. London Bridge & Borough Market are my old stomping grounds. I'll be at the biggest security conference in Europe on Wednesday & Thursday, in Covent Garden on Wednesday evening and Mayfair on the Thursday night. Not ...

Have a great time people. Very much enjoyed last year, and sad to be missing this one :(

But, Hey, I'll still be in the UK seeing the rest of my family for the first time in months :)

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

On our LEG trip (Land's End to Goudhurst) hike through all the counties of the South of Blighty, we did a stop in a B&B to the West of Tavistock, or "Tavi" as the locals seem to call it. 17,220ft of climb... route was approximately (though we took almost B-roads almost exclusively): ht...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Whilst I can't cycle here at the moment (it's 40C during the day and will soon get to 50C in Dubai and 60C in Al Ain), I am swimming every day. So, each morning at 6AM, I swim between 3/4 and 1 mile (30 to 40 lengths of the 40mtr pool), and try to do the same each night at about 9PM. Been doing this...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Do you ever head in Yeovil direction, Ray? I've been in that direction once or twice but not as far as Yeovil and I obviously avoid the A303. We have some good friends who live between Yeovil and Sherborne so I think a journey that way is on the cards. We're planning to be down around Plymouth when...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I think we are mourning the demise of (another?) signal connection protocol, but yes probably. :D Looking at Wiki, it dates from 1977, so its had a good run. Being only analogue its was never going to survive much longer. It was always rubbish - one of the worst physical interfaces - a completely u...
