Re: Richard Dunn RIP

Very sad. Talking to friends of his at the funeral, we agreed that there was a gentler and more humorous side to him that rarely made it to forum-land sadly, as his guard was always up.

Re: Hypex UcD180 modules

Have a look on the audiosciencereview forum for basic info, which you may have already. The NC400 modules are raved over there and measurements seem incredible - this may pass down and across into other modules they make and same with the smps supplies which nowadays, don't seem so noisy and intrusi...

Re: The Genius Strikes Again

Good effort. I hear via the grapevine that some 'A-list' US HiFi people have been informed of its capabilities ... Yes I heard that too, it seems quite a few of the high end brigade use Garrards. I doubt the *real* High End would be seen dead with that old rumble box :D Still my favourite looking v...

Re: Amazon basics....

Fascinating little test of speaker cables on ASR site - https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/when-12-gauge-wire-is-not-12-gauge.3/ Looks as though the copper plated aluminium stuff adds resistance way outside of its gauge and also seems to have a shortened life as the copper ca...

Re: DIY grounding box.

Since the 'grounding cable' seems to make such a difference too, I wonder if any of these recent 'converts' ever tried a shorting plug in each unused phono socket on the back of their amps? It was one of Jimmy Hughes' tweaks and I remember first trying it on my Meridian 207 CD player/preamp. I *thou...

Re: Speaker help required...

Have a word with Lockwoods, as they may have some spares (unlikely but ask). I believe Elac may have made the original Studio 1 drivers (I do know the difference and sold many 1M's back then, even trying to own a pair a couple of years back - the metal cones these days are more audible than I rememb...

Re: Speaker help required...

Which TDL?

I know the driver designer for the TDL models and if I can get gold of him, he may be able to help as he has *some* bits and bods around. Depends what's needed. Of the old stock, I think Lockwoods may be able to help otherwise...

Re: Audio Technica VM540ML

I've been trying to say this for a while. The German Lowbeats site liked it a lot some time back and although it's still a slightly lively balance which I think vinyl needs, it's not 'acidic' as the previous models could be and it certainly seems to flesh the bass out a little compared to the lower ...

Re: House sound?

A bit long ago when I used to compare these or their predecessor headphones. Top open-back Sennheisers used to be slightly mellow and 'subtle' in balance (my ancient well travelled HD25SP's are anything but and I love 'em to pieces, this character something most of you wouldn't I suspect :D ) Beyers...

Re: Speaker Surround Replacement

I remember these with great fondness and glad you took care to do the job carefully. More sparkle than the AR7 had and obviously the wider dispersion would help here too... Only thing to watch is the rather iffy load (from memory) and I seem to think the replacement model dropped two tweeters each s...

Re: Can now fall asleep whilst listening to LP’s safely.

That takes me back forty years when it was called a 'Stylift' if memory serves (Monitor Audio imported it?). A bit of a fiddle to align right, but it seemed safe enough once set. Ah, not quite! The MA Stylift was a much cruder device. When the arm reached the end of its travel it tipped over a pivo...

I'm being very cheeky and mean this with tongue in cheek, but if a Hyperspace sends you to sleep, there's something ...

Re: Cable suggestions for phonostage innards

I suppose I'm an idiot here because I kind of went through this learning experience thirty to forty odd years ago - I promise I'm not being patronising here. The best comparison of sorts I can give is when I went from collecting every leaflet and catalogue at shows (and spending months absorbing it ...
