Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Funny you should mention that shane, ive been mulling over changing the wand for a titanium tube instead of a carbon fibre one for the last few days. Im in two minds as to wether to do it as it would mean changing 2 things at once. Ive settled on the design and material for the arm pillar, settled o...

Re: Reel to reel
Got another job completed on the Akai, I made a replacement cap for the pinch roller. Bit of aluminium, more of a pain in the arse than i thought it would be to be honest. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51352464328_03eb1e99e8_k.jpg Charity shop akai 4000ds mk2 by anthony cresswell , on Flickr H...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Did a little more work on the arm, made a heavier counterweight. I did try adding some lead to the existing one but it altered the mass distribution of the counterweight and did strange things to the lateral balance so i sacked that and did it properly with some more steel. If anyone wants some stic...

Re: Reel to reel
Last weekend i did abit more work on the charity shop akai. To try to sort out the pitch instability i took the feed reel table to bits to have a look at the felt clutch arrangement at has, and have a look at the back tension mechanism. The reel table clutch is fairly simple, comprised of several wa...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
On this arm the brass mounting plate is what adds the weight Because it is directly over the top of the cart, and moves with the cart when it is aligned, i have to calculate the plate in with the cart weight rather than as a headshell. It does interesting things to the calculation if you add it in a...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Interesting... just been looking at dl103's while looking for carts. As we know, they have have a compliance of 5, and i suddenly remembered that that figure was arrived at measured at 100hz. So its not 5, its somewhere around 9 ish at 10hz. Hence looki g at them at all. I then found an article that...

Faffing with the lathe. I wanted to use the fine feed when i was making the parts for the latest version of the arm im working on, however to do that the change gears must be...well.... changed. Getting at the ones on the apron is no problem if a little fiddly, getting the spindle gear off is anothe...
