So Nick, how would you rate the Partridge transformers? Do you know where they were sourced from? My feelings were they were good but maybe not great. And certainly not cheap. Listening to them I wasn;t aware of anything that sounded like a shortcoming. http://www.acoustic-dimension.com/transformer...

Great, I can see sense now. Looking at those ratios, if you connect 230v to pin 1 and 2 (black), the one sep of red produces 363v, the other 356v. The green pair produce 6.77v and the yellow 5.52 So I think black 1 and 2 in the mains in, black 3 is the screen. The two red pairs are the 350v secondar...

Also, if you do want to drive them actively, then why not take advantage of the fact the mid is only going down to 100hz or so and use a triode with a output transformer designed to only have to go that low, the problems of trying to cover the full range of frequencies is as much a problem for a tr...

30Hz? I think you're being a bit over-ambitious here. In practice, the one above for e.g., with some room gain, is likely to be at about -3/4db at 40Hz. 30Hz is pushing it for a U frame of the width you're demanding (remember, you can't make them too deep). You can do it, with some major LF Eq / bo...

Also just noticed the triode cathode is straight to ground, no cathode resistor. This means its grid is forward conductive on positive half cycles, this puts a negative charge on C14. This becomes negative bias for the triode. Which also reduces its mu, so it's a kind of AGC, or gain compressor eff...
What's the difference from the prototype shown there and the current baffles? The top lip has gone, it was only a experiment to see if it affected a in room effect in my room, it didn't. The finals are made from 25mm Ply instead of MDF, and I have a Fostek tweeter across the 167 set to come in abou...
