Re: AMPLIFIER PORN!

If I recall from my working days, you should need a tool to remove 'safety covers', (and that's not the person). As Nick said, with those voltages, fail safe interlocks would be good because there's nothing to stop someone powering up without a tube, and the cap is unlikely to be IP2x. Sould all be ...

Re: MoFo PCBs

Good buy in my view.

Steve if you want any info on my build, just ask. I have spare power transformers and also microwave transformers that can be used as cheap chokes.

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Impressive.

Also had a good week with 160 miles, but only 4500ft tootling around the Cheshire plains.

This week not looking as good weather wise.

Re: Snail Phono Pre

Yes but no but!. Measuring no problem, but that means taking both the top and bottom off the enclosure, so can't allow it to heat up again (if that is what's causing the issue)! Must admit that one of the Tele ECC83 I'm using hums. You can't hear it when playing music so thought might as well use th...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Illogical. Yesterday I cycled out to Motran and Redesmere, 60 miles and probably passed no more than 20 walkers and cyclists over the whole route. There are many families cycling around here say on the Trans Pennine Trail, but they're crawling with walkers and joggers as well. I intend to continue -...

Re: Snail Phono Pre

So just had an extended listening session and sugar, one channel dropped in volume. Felt the top and it was quite warm. Switched off, allowed to cool, and all was fine again.. Dissipation is higher to me now running higher currents and perhaps the original 6 off 1" square vents are inadequate f...

Re: 6C33C SE-OTL Project

Another benefit of the CCS is that voltdrop is simply the difference between the supply and valve Va at the chosen current.

As valves age, or you try another, so long as you have enough voltage headroom, just drop in and test/listen at the same Ia.

Re: Decisions Decisions

1st part of the rewire done. That was fiddly - don't think they are commercially viable. I have a suspended TT but what I noticed was that most of the available DIN tonearm leads looked very stiff. Roksan was different and I have tried to copy in terms of the cable flexibility at the DIN plug end. A...

... to a pair of Osram, grey glass KT66, out of a quad I bought off Steve a couple of years ago. These, being the British variant of the American 6L6, biased up exactly the same, and they are being given an airing below. They don’t half sound good :D That's what i ended up using in my Rocky, (again...

Re: Decisions Decisions

Your f4 appears to be an early version, it has the bevelled counterweight and metal bearing housing All the paperwork states it is a mk 4 with bevelled counterweight, with an offset mounting hole that is adjusted/twisted to square up the cartridge. interestingly, in the above picture is sat on the ...

Re: Decisions Decisions

However the Mayware although as-sold is suitable mainly for high-compliance carts, you can get surpisingly good results with less compliant MC's by loading the headshell with some extra weight ( I use lead shim about 2mm thick ) and adding an extra counterweight. The Formula IV has an effective mas...
