No, ERAR won't load - must be blocked ( along with every other way of getting out of this ) by this heinious infection.
However, the decrypt steps may work later on the USB hard-drive if I can get the main disc wiped and back to normal operation with the anti-malware etc . There's still a slim hope !

I doubt my system can handle W10, guys. It's quite old - 2GHz, 2G ram, 70G disc. I think for now W7 can be tried but at some stage soon ( pennies permitting ) I'll look for a good-spec Laptop to give me more functionality ( eg. for testing ) and see how that goes , use with a separate keyboard. depending on the hardware you might just have to go with a fresh xp install, if you bought windows 10 for example it might not work with the hardware you have I think my system will be OK with Windows 7 - so, plan is : Disconnect back-up USB drive :D Wipe system and install XP again ( no updates ) ...

OK - I'll look into that . I've just been thinking about the re-install . With it being XP, I guess once it's loaded, i'll not be able to get all the updates and service packs that came in over the years . Is this going to be a big problem ? I'll not make a move until I'm sure I can get the PC worki...

I just wrote a long reply about what I'd done so far with malwarebytes ( which didn't get it to run ) including Chameleon, but it just disappeared as I posted it, so that's another 'king pain in the arse to add to everything else. Wood looks very similar to mine. Is the ali top black painted ? , mine is shiny. Should be removable somehow anyway .

I'm using one of theirs ( looks like 17x10" ) as one channel of a bi-amp set-up . I'm not sure what the one upstairs is, on the wood though - looks like Ramin or something a little darker, maybe not walnut .
