Re: CDP / DAC output stage
Hi again Wolfgang, I have been listening to the cdp without the output stage for a week already. I have 10uf coupling caps and 100k ohms to ground on the dacs output before the phono sockets. Also i left in a 680pf polystyrene cap which forms a low pass 1st order filter. It says in the datasheet tha...

Re: CDP / DAC output stage
Hi wolfgang, Thanks for your input. Yes, i have read the data sheet again and it ties in with what i am hearing. Why Naim plonked a 7 pole bessel filter on the end i dont know. Or maybe i do. The unit has to measure well or it wont sell or be taken seriously. The data sheet says Zo (output impedance...

Re: Cathode follower buffer
He sounds like a top fella. That's a very kind offer Ant, thank you. Is there any content in there about general electronics or is it all about valve circuits ? Thing is, I am not sure the book will be any use to me after I have done a cathode follower buffer (I take it the book covers that) as to b...

CDP / DAC output stage
Hey, I have been messing about with my Naim CD3.5 and decided after reading the lampizator snip it page to bypass the anologue output stage. I must admit that his views do strike a chord with me regarding keeping things simple if possible. I lifted one leg of a 10uf coupling cap in each channel, add...

Re: Cathode follower buffer
Thanks Nick and Gregg. When i bypassed the anologue stage i kept a pair of 10uf coupling caps (one each channel) and added 100K to ground. So i guess that will have taken care of any DC ? I am ok with power supplies as i have done a few (SS) but the actual tube circuit is what i am a complete beginn...

Cathode follower buffer
Hello. I am interested in learning how to build one of these with 6H6P Russian valves to stick on the end of a CDP which has a voltage out dac and output stage bypassed. I wonder if there is any guidance that can be given as to where to learn about such circuits. I read the lampizator site which is ...

Re: Quad ESL57 electrostatics
Some things Phil are just on the disc and there is nothing you can do about it. :x Vocal sibilance nearly drove me mad on some recordings and I thought it was my modded cdp. Eventually i played the cd's on enough systems to realise that it was on the recording. A certain Stevie Wonder CD had me ques...

Try an old CD first Phil that you are not that bothered about. Rest the CD on something soft as you don't want it rattling about in there.

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
I'm not 100% with psrr either but it is basically the circuits level of immunity to power supply noise. Output stages tend to be less fussy about noise (ripple) on the psu. That is my understanding any way. A thought that occurred to me was that when the output stages have a separate psu to the inpu...

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
The reason I say the above is that with this particular piece of equipment, I've had more lump-in-throat and grin moments than with anything else, and the thing, in terms of the power supply, is so simple; one transformer one bridge package, two caps and two rails. It does me nicely how it is. Can'...

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
Yes, bad terminology in my post, I meant the front end of the amp, as opposed to the bit that drives the speakers and possibly the bit that drives the bit that drives the speakers.   This is an interesting question. In my KISS version the stages are talking to each other. I've never...

Re: DIY Transistor Amp Using NVA Boards
And I assume a cap to ground after the decoupling? Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. 100uf electro and 0.1uf film :D Yep, thats the important part, the diode works to isolate the driver stage from the voltage variations (drops) as the output stage dumps current into the load. Without the cap the vol...
