Re: What should I hear?

Hey DQ. I will try and give a flavour of my experience and hope I don't waffle on too much if go OT. Trying to keep this short. It was a long road for me until I found what I wanted. No measurements but used a test tone cd a few times when I needed a clue to where a problem was. As you know I share ...

Re: Hi all

I try not to be too cynical, it only leads to a bad place. As I do all the vacuming I don't have that particular problem.

Re: Dac for an arcam delta 170.3 transport

Well moving on from the delta, its finally dead. It wont play anything for more than 5 seconds. Reads fine, selects tracks fine, then plays five seconds and stops. Something on the logic board maybe. Who knows. The cyrus cd7 is fine so thats ok. I also swapped the akai 4000ds r2r for a linn mimik c...

Re: Definitive Build

RD said he added more whilst listening and stopped when adding more stoped bringing any audible improvement. I am always suspicious with those sorts of stories with no actual evidence. Its odd how it always ends up with an solution that happens to be convenient with respect to cost and convenience ...

Re: Definitive Build

It is said that there is a sweet spot regarding the amount of capacitance provided for different amplifiers. RD said he added more whilst listening and stopped when adding more stoped bringing any audible improvement. I have seen it mentioned that too much psu capacitance can make a power amp sound ...

Re: Sars-Cov-2 stuff

Hope you feel better soon Ed.

For me the cold symptoms didn't last longer than three days but were followed by a day of sitting on the loo and then a couple where I felt like hanging myself. All over in 5-6 days.

Re: Wood pellet stove.

All my wood comes from my six acre wild life area and some tree surgery jobs I do as a sideline. I burn it on my stove rather than let it rot sonewhere. Chipping it is a huge waste of fuel and time and not environmentally friendly in lots of ways. I use as much of the tree as possible by logging it ...

Re: Wood pellet stove.

I know the owners of a local estate who have a large pellet boiler. The pellets they use are imported from Germany FFS. Has nobody heard of climate change? This method of heating is viewed as relatively green but how can it be when the fuel is doing so many miles to reach point of use.

I think Collins is a little cockney bongo miracle yet I can't get very excited about Genesis. I can listen to them quite happily but that's as far as it goes.

Re: Wood pellet stove.

Forgot to say, you can't use tree surgeon's chipped waste. Once it is chipped and put on a pile it starts to heat up and compost very quickly unless it was dead wood. The result is one large mass which won't flow for self feeding boilers. Waste of time trying.

Re: Wood pellet stove.

I wouldn't bother for the reasons mentioned. I do some tree surgery amongst other things which supplements what I get from my six acres of woodland. If it wasn't for "free" wood I wouldn't even bother with a log burner. Saying that with gas and electricity prices the way they are then thin...
