Re: Anyone had experience with the Google Chromecast Audio?

I'm not up to date with my home IT and this laptop keeps dropping out if I ask it to stream YouTube to my Chromecast Audio. As a stand alone unit, if it'll accept the stream over the wireless network, it *sounds* very good for something so simple, surprisingly so and it was this that made me take my...

Re: lentek head amp upgrade

I did mine many years ago now with assistance from an AOS member - I forget who and apologies if they remember, as they sent me some Oscons to fit in replacement for the tants originally fitted. My board wasn't potted so easier to modify. Any better for it? Nah, it's still hissy and brightly lit to ...

As I can't drill metal cases reliably, I'll stick to me abs project boxes. Some of them don't look bad at all...

Re: Richard Dunn

If you want to tinker then no, NVA isn't for you... The designs have been expertly tinkered with already so you don't have or need to... And they can be serviced if needs be.

Buy a kit and make your own if you don't do this already :)

Re: Richard Dunn

HiFi reproduction of music and the gear to reproduce it covers many facets and surely there's room for all. NVA is one very good commercial way of getting a good musical end result and some of the ideas expressed in the products aren't so off-kilter with the mainstream these days I feel (having look...

Re: New Headphone Amp

I do have huge respect at you lot for 'cobbling together' a good working item out of bits from a parts box and adapting what you have to suit :D I get much pleasure when I first switch on one of the amps I assemble for a living, but the main work is done with pre-assembled boards and a given specifi...

Re: Looking for guide to setting suspension on Thorens TD-160

Such was my hunger for fame and with a high degree of self importance long ago knocked out of me, I submitted a guide in HiFi Answers forty years ago on setting a TD160 up and it was printed too... If anyone's interested, it needs treating like an LP12 except that most 160's have cam-washers at the ...

Re: Desktop/PC speakers...

Price may be prohibitive, but the Jordan Eikona drivers are making many friends around and about. They can be used in roughly 5l cabs (LS3/5A size) too and much work went into developing them.

Can removing Chrome's cache history help here? I use C-Cleaner every so often for ' a proper clear-out' and it seems to work well, for me anyway.

Re: Forgotten Amps.

My Quad II's, of which it seems I'm a lifetime custodian, were rebuilt carefully by Glenn Croft pretty faithfully believe. He did put in a twin valve regulator which drops the power output a tad but the rest doesn't look too different from original apart from better caps and resistors. The reason fo...

Re: Malcolm Young

Here's me thinking Angus would have been first to go as his head-banging (and smoking habit) may well have damaged his brain and body - he sounded slurred when I saw an interview not so long ago.

What a great old good-time-naughty-lyric rock&roll band they were. How sad...

Re: Buggering around with headshells

Mass plays a part as well as general cartridge microphony, which is audible when playing records I found. I intensely disliked the previous Goldring MC's but held off saying anything because the current ones may be a lot better in this (a kind of pinched closed-in 'nasal' sound I remember). Of the c...

Re: laptop upgrade

My geriatric laptop almost predates Vista, so when I wanted Windows 7, I had to buy a licence for it (some cheaper ones come from scrapped computers and are perfectly valid and transferable). I did the free update from 7 to 10 and when I needed to reformat the drive and re-install Windows 10, the fr...

Re: Leak Truspeed turntable restoration

I don't really remember ever playing with one and had an idea the suspension was rubber as in squash-balls or similar. Long ago memories though.. Edit - I just checked an old eBay sale and it does indeed appear to have springs in the suspension - how odd, unless they changed it later on in it's life...
