Re: Nothing In Particular

Network config stuff makes me nervous, it seems like it could be very easy to do something inappropriate or even dangerous through lack of knowledge. Are there any simple solutions that are a bit more "plug and play" that don't need you to be a Comp Sci person? Very good point. IPFire on ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Although Defender is pretty good, I actually use AVG behind a very good firewall Could you give us any quick tips on what to look for in a home firewall solution? Should I be looking at a hardware device behind my ISP box? Generally, its the quality of your router/main firewall that counts. I cheat...

Re: Nothing In Particular

We now have a decent 3D printer. I'm feeling the need to get a couple of cheapy 100uF 500V caps with HUGE ESRs and stick them in some 3D printed REALLY BIG CASES then bung them on eBay.

Allegedly.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Cathartic. I'm doing the same in my workshops and an outbuilding. I've more valves than I'll use in a dozen lifetimes, plus some wonderful tools that haven't been used for 10 years or more (though I was living abroad for a good chunk of that). There'll be a lot of stuff going. A lot. Hence the table...

Re: Wanted. 2m of decent hook-up wire

D'oh! Thanks chaps, but somehow I'd read coax/screened. I must be losing it. (Comments about never having are not required, even if there's some truth!) There's 100s of types of coax all with different characteristics (most of which have no discernable effect at audio frequencies *). What are you a...

simon wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 7:25 pm Well if you chaps have any to spare I'd be interested in buying some. I seem to get through lots more of the stuff than I expect.
I updated my original post above with the spec - if that stuff interests you, PM me.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Getting rid of the car is still not quite a possibility...so far. I'll have a look at Carol Nash. All info gratefully received! Depends on the age of the car. For my Landy etc. we use Adrian Flux who are specialists in older vehicles. The Landy has a guaranteed value of £18k, we limit the milage to...

Re: Vintage Telsa electronics lapel pins...

Discovered a bunch of these in the back of one of my workshop drawers. Do they catch fire? There might be those on this forum who will use this as an opportunity promulgate a conspiracy theory based on good reliable "evidence" that they are prone to fail unexpectedly more often than tradi...

It's worth reminding folk that the s/n ratio of this forum can be GREATLY improved by use of the "Foe" option in your user control panel. Yep, I considered that when you mentioned it before, but given that I run the place, I thought I should at least pay attention even if I decide not to ...
