Re: Ali Bastanis OB testing & results

Do the cables serve a purpose other than to locate the drive units - maybe they're some sort of compliant arrangement? If not, for a single speaker mounting arrangement you could use spacers, like those connecting the bass units in the pictures, to mount the unit to the frame?

Not sure expense was where Wolfgang was coming from Ali, just commenting that the price point is similar to the servo-equipped bass he's been looking at folllowing the SLOB bass loading discussion.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

Just sorted out the hum on my DSD decoder project so taking the opportunity to listen to Tori Amos 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin' on an eval install of HQPlayer 4 with its new filter/shaper options. 44.1Khz FLAC copy resampled to DSD128.

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

I returned to this project last evening; last time I played it when I introduced it to the main system I found it had acquired a disconcerting hum and last evening I finally found the cause - a poor ground connection under one of the boards. Now properly connected and wow, playing through my new Noi...

Tried it some years ago; didn't find it anything special and settled on HQ Player as my player software of choice.

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

A really hard ride this morning, out into lumpy West Somerset, taking in the old Brendon Hills Iron Mining village (now no more!); very windy over the hills and even had to work hard to make progress down hill in places! It was nice to finally head eastwards and pick up a tailwind. Probably the most...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

I also suffered with headwinds this morning but managed a 32mile jaunt up onto the Blackdown Hills. Pretty chuffed actually as I set myself a target of a new personal best on the first climb; I took the best part of two minutes off (>11% improvement) in spite of the headwind and maintained HR zone 5...

Re: SLOB project

Oh, and there were no additional costs for VAT or import duty. Hope this proves true for you Ray. However, in my own experience when I bought some ESL speaker kits from Australia I also thought I have paid all the duties and relevant taxes etc. at source and was not charged any addition Import Duti...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I came across this link to an old American magazine over on DIY Audio that I thought might be of interest; there's an article about a DIY speaker based on the 'exciter' type principle and I'm sure Ant will like the arm/cartridge stuff... From the ads anyone would think television was a growth indust...

Re: SLOB project

Yes, I thought that. Shame the two Lii units have the disparity between their sensitivity specs.

I though these might be a good match for the Lii 10inchers

Re: SLOB project

Wolfgang, there's a lot of technical stuff (that I've only skimmed through) in the thread you linked to, along with, perhaps, an element of 'willy-waving', so like the initial poster, I don't have an understaning of the 'science' but I think Nelson Pass's last paragraph in post #16; In any case, the...

Re: SLOB project

I was wondering if some OB experts could shed more light on what the guy says in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LMe-ypUVu In my understanding the bass is the main benefit from OBs but then again it would need to come from bass drivers ("open source" OB?)that don't operate kin...
