Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Around 120 to 130uF for the cap seems best. Currently on 128uF made up of a big 100uF Mundorf EVO poly/oil, a GE poly-oil 20uF and 2x 4uF Russian PIO's .
The crossover at 1000Hz ( ish ) seems a bit less successful than at 1200Hz . May go back eventually, but will do some tests .

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Making more progress today. Brought the compression driver forward about another 2 inches ( actually it needs to go further again - more mods ! ) and this has improved integration & tone. Later on I'll adjust the cap value in the series crossover . I found that this link : http://sound.westhost....

Re: The Latest Push-Pull Build
I might ask Bud to make me a pair of Sowter 3575-equivalents now, before I miss my chance. I'd quite like to try a PP of this type on the bass/mid Quasar channels, might be just the ticket. Not sure about output valves just yet. Might be naughty and go DHP, if they are cheaper than the typical good-...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Yes - & I'm now in a good mood , Chris :D Further thinking about suitable drivers was followd by a few calcs this morning to see if the 3.3mH choke alone would be of some use for a quick experiment . Given it's 8 ohms at 390Hz , in the context of the series crossover, that ought to be bringing t...

Re: Audio Note CD3.1x FAIL ... false alarm
Ok, I posted the CD player off to Stephen Horowitz in London ( SH Audio) to see if he can sort it out. I went to the Post Office. They offered to send it for £40 'king quid. As a compromise they offered to send via Parcelforce for £33 'king quid . Can you believe those prices ? I could drive down to...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Could be useful -thanks ! Thing is - I know the room can be very good, and I'm keeping the speaker location more or less fixed so it's more a question of why some combinations are not working out while others are excellent , in the same location. I've been looking more critically at the B&C 8PE2...

Re: The Latest Push-Pull Build
I hadn't realised ( Chris V told me ) there's a Western Electric circuit ( the 133A ) from the 30's along these lines. I even have a small stash of lovely STC 4328D's for that ( or Steve's circuit, to be honest ) , equivalents of the WE driver valves.

Re: The Latest Push-Pull Build
Very nice info - what's a VT75 by the way ? - you can explain better than a search on tube data sheets etc, I expect .

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Thanks Chris .
Impulse measurement should at least back up what I'm hearing on transients as i try to integrate the speakers.
What's 'REW' - is it a type of measurment or a package ?

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?
I saw that too - he is a great talent and a wondrous guitarist. Having seen him live last year ( in an 2 hrs + acoustic set near Macclesfield ) I found his singing rather better than I thought , though not Tim Buckley or Frank Sinatra , he does very well with the limited potential he has - the Vince...
