Re: What are the oldest affordable valves you can still buy?

Ignoring the fact that affordable is a number that only you can pick, and by "still buy" I guess that requires 1. they still exist, and 2. you can afford them. But what do you mean by oldest? Do you mean older as in they were made a long time ago, or made more recently but were made to co...

What are the oldest affordable valves you can still buy?

... for audio, that is. As per the question really. I'm pondering the mono rig I want to build specifically for playing Meredith's 78's. It occurred to me that it really ought to use period-correct valves wherever possible. They don't have to be the best in the world - this thing is going to be pret...

Re: Pete Millett LR phono preamp

Still not been able to replicate it in Spice - measuring the response on the SUT secondaries suggests the reverse-RIAA is OK with the MC loading of 150R (plus I think the Whest is set to 470R and the response was bang on the money). Actually now I've typed that, I should adjust the load down to 50R...

WTB - Maida Regulator

Pondering a build of the Salas Valve Itch phono. Anyone got a spare Maida Regulator for the B+ ?

Re: Liquorice Pizza Player

Bah! I tried a punt but it's since gone onto eBay. Which is the right thing to do from the seller's perspective. Figured I'd go for the triumvirate - Garrard, Lenco and Thorens. Oh well.

Re: Pete Millett LR phono preamp

I haven't looked but don't those inverse EQ thingies have to be loaded or should I say not loaded down? Maybe a tx input presents too low a Z for it? Cheers, Stephen I did wonder about that myself, mine is currently on 150 ohms. The issue here is at the frequency extremes. We know the RIAA curve sh...

Re: Pete Millett LR phono preamp

Oh dear - so having tested out my reverse RIAA on the Whest to prove its accuracy... here's what the response of my build of the Millett stage looks like: https://user.fm/files/v2-b404bdc60427b349a6cc9fa06072d208/Frequency_Resp.png That's rising from -14dB at 18Hz to -6dB at around 500Hz. Then we dr...

Reverse RIAA

I made up a little Reverse RIAA pcb based on this design: https://hifisonix.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Accurate-Inverse-RIAA.pdf - I did it for through-hole components as I'm still not into this whole SMD soldering thing. As usual with my stuff, PCB came from JLCPCB and box from Schaeffer using ...

Re: AMB linestage rebuild

Happy days - finally interfaced the relay coil connectors on the signal board to the driver board, the resulting relay clicks (rather than silence) was a good sign. I then installed the two power transformers for the signal board left and right channel power supplies, both power supply boards tested...

Inherited Pioneer PL-12D and Leak 2000 receiver in late 1986, added a new Denon DRM-07 tape deck and Wharfedale Diamond II's to it.

Re: AMB linestage rebuild

New PCB populated and tested this weekend - all looks good! :D We now have a functioning input selection section and more optimised pull-up / current limiting resistor values. Next weekend's task is to make up the ribbon cables to connect to the signal board relay coils (not quite sure why I didn't ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I quite like my e30, i run the usb from the tablet into it to stream tidal so no hi res files. I dont have a single hi res anything. Also run the cd player into it. The teeny weeny form factor is a big plus for me because there is not the space for boxes, and it sounds great for the price I transfe...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Bought a Topping E30 II DAC to go on the end of a Roonbridge (running on an old 2008 Macbook with Debian Linux, the MacOS it'll run is well out of support by now). Due to arrive today. This is a temporary measure to quickly get Roon working with the hifi, as well as allowing me to exercise the DSD ...
