Re: GM70 PP
BTW, one of the things that makes winding a choke input choke different from a cap input one is the voltage it has to withstand from one terminal to the other, so the way the windings are laid down and insulation between layers becomes important. The Lundahl datasheet quotes "insulation betwee...

Re: GM70 PP
Why not think about a slow start option?

Re: GM70 PP
This bit I'm not getting. Sure at start up but not continuously as the cap has a DC charge and the AC content across the cap is ripple so the current draw by the cap is the AC ripple V/cap Z or summat like that. That's how I see it, hence my original comment about perhaps a slow start circuit (ther...

Re: GM70 PP
Am I missing something You may be missing what choke input means, its not just a power supply with a choke in it. Always possible, I'll admit. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that choke input power supplies have a choke immediately following the rectifier rather than a cap. Chokes resist change i...

Re: GM70 PP
Harshest conditions would be at startup, maybe consider a slow start circuit? I've honestly never worried about the choke. Even if it briefly saturated at startup it just makes it a heavy resistor but it will quickly return to normal? Am I missing something?

Re: GM70 PP
I have only used choke input filters personally, I have less experience with cap input. I follow Jac's advice (Lundahl dealer) and choose the choke which gives me the maximum inductance which is rated for the current. For example my 26 PSU draws about 11mA, 6 for the valve and 5 for the bleed resist...

Re: GM70 PP
Not sure I'm following the concern, 60mA well under 200mA rating?

I shall be bringing the PSU and amp to next meet.
Do I have to wait until June?

Lovely wooden valve bases
Shameless bragging of my brother's woodworking abilities. I recently spent a week with my wife building a canoe (whole other story) and at the end of the week we made paddles from some old reclaimed wood, African Makore. I saved the offcuts and Geoff just made these valve bases for me. Not fitted pr...

I see the pic from above on page 6, is there a side pic elsewhere ?
IGNORE - me being dumb again.
As long as it works for you, just interested.

Re: GM70 PP
What I was trying to understand (perhaps I'm being dumb) was that if you mount from below then you need to turn the transistors around so the legs are in the right positions for the board, which expects the transistors mounted from above. So presumably you do that and, what, bend the transistors awa...

Re: GM70 PP
Slightly confused. They are the small boards but with the 3 legged transistors mounted on the wrong side? How are the heat sinks mounted?
