Re: Sars-Cov-2 stuff
I've got a case of the Christmas covids. So far it's just like a bad cold. Nothing a bottle of whiskey can't sort out. :D Sorry to hear that Stu. Just given myself a test before zooming off to Christmas in West Yorkshire. Thanks Phil. Christmas was only going to be the four of us at home so no plan...

Re: Speaker mods
Mid range domes seem to divide opinion. You can't cross them over super low. I'm not sure if they all have ferro fluid or not but I try to avoid the bloody stuff if possible. Tweeters have too much distortion if used with 1st order filters imo. I would be concerned that mid domes could be the same. ...

Re: New SE With Triode Mode KT120/150
Yeah, carry on being you Steve. I enjoy reading your threads and it has never crossed my mind to judge you. I am guilty of gushing over a modification and later have to backtrack. It does annoy me and I try not to do it but always fall back into it. It is an exciting hobby and it is difficult not to...

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.
Hello Steve. I have just caught up with your speaker adventure. I didn't know that you had hearing troubles, sorry to read about that. My hearing tails off at 13 kHz and I have a very low level hissing probably due to years of playing drums and loud machinery at work. I have no idea how it effects w...

Re: Cartridge Isolation.
Hello Phil.
I have no problem with Greg having an opinion. Blutack drying out is something that we all know about (or should).
My comment was aimed at the snide little swipe at Steve and that there is something wrong with his system.
Just ignore me, most do.

Re: Cartridge Isolation.
Good One. All blue, white, black tac’s have limited effective life. They naturally dry out and loose their elasticity and adhesion properties with the passage of time. Considering that, be prepared to replace your black tac very regularly. As much as I don’t buy into the ‘Houdini’ nonsense, you don...

Yes flat earth bollox has a lot to answer for. Luckily (debateable) my tonearm is a Naim Aro so no crappy bearings to worry about.

Re: Help with Bowers and Wilkins CDM7 speakers
Hello. Glad that you found a solution that is acceptable to you. The DM series is of lower quality than the CDM but don't let that worry you the drivers are still B&W kevlar. Many of their kevlar drivers use the same basket and look very similar. They have stopped using kevlar in their drivers n...

Re: Stereo to mono
I don't have much experience of mono recordings so can't comment on that. The only recordings I have are some old jazz stuff including blue note. It sounds good through two speakers. Some stereo recordings sounded better than others when summed to mono. Led zep 2 was one that sounded awful. I had a ...

Re: Stereo to mono
Giving up on this now as I have heard enough and it is giving me a headache. Not sure why. The frequency response has shifted. Going back to stereo asap. At least I have tried it.The prospect of fewer amps and speakers was very appealing but alas not to be.

Re: Stereo to mono
Listening to it now. Nothing got hot and smoked so good so far :D Overall volume seems about the same. It is interesting . Not sure what to make of it yet although my speaker is not in the right place. It sounds like all the sounds are still there but it is more obvious where they are coming from wi...
