Nice Work Dave . Good on finding some SV Nick Drake. Still can't decide whether I think Nick's best record is Bryter Layter or Pink Moon, They are both so very very good . Keep on the lookout for any Pink Rim copies of BL or PM though, you may ( like I did ) find a good disc in a tatty cover, and th...

Maybe I should just leave the amp as it is ?
It's pretty fashionable :

How's that wobbly arm sounding then Dave ?
Any good discs to report this week ?
I got a copy of 'The Notorious Byrd Brothers' and it's a very mellow and tonally rich thing to enjoy .

To Andrew Ivimey - I dropped lucky with the Tribute step-ups. When I asked about them he had about 10 pairs on the shelf .
If he hasn't got any, then expect to keep asking him for about a year

Step

Hello Folks, Well, I've only used the S& B Tx-103s and the Tribute amorphous 1:10's . James D was of the opinion the best budget-priced one was one of the Sowter ones, but I don't know which one, if there are more than one ... The S&B's are jolly large and sound excellent after they are burned in fo...

That LP has miles to run Dave . Keep a check on it in the last few minutes . It's not in great condition, but it's probably make over £250, maybe a lot more . A really nice one went for £1080 recently . Look out for pink rim ones though . Have you heard Blodwyn Pig 'Ahead Rings Out' ? - that's anoth...

Well there we go Andrew . I knew I should have tried something of that sort at some stage . I'll ask you again how you think it sounds in a couple of weeks though .... I've been there a few times !

On the deck ? - that's Traffic 'Traffic' from 1968 . A classic of the label . You need one Dave ! I'm a big fan of unipivots now. I always expected I would be . The eventual plan is the homebuilt unipivot made from oiled ebony, for plenty of mass and low resonance . Now I have the Mayware I have a b...

2 stages of 6SL7 is going to have a 'mental' amount of gain .

Sorry, it's a cathode-follower.
I'll get me coat...

Mayware

Here's my latest toy .
The brass weight at the back is a custom addition . This is a really nice arm now , very impressed . Cartridge is a 103R , deck is the Nottingham Hyperspace .
Low-res shot just to give you an idea .

James is very fond of the P2 and LP2
Gain on the 4017a I think was around 7 from the d/s , yes ?
Will's idea sounds good .

You might need to take some steps to damp vibration if you use it as the imput valve. Looks v.nice though , interesting .

Steve, I'd say an interstage and a pair of 2A3's might be too much for that 4019A , looks like it runs below 10mA with 5k Z-out of so . Try it , but don't be disheartened about PP Class A if it doesn't sound right ... You can ultrapath the output stage as per the Lynn Olson stuff which will keep the...

powerful

No, Andrew, I think the ECC99 is a little higher-rated than the others. I found my own preferences of the three options I tried ( which were plug-in swaps as I remember ) were : (i) 6N6P (ii) RCA 5687 (iii) ECC99 And I think your amp with smaller 2A3 output valves will cope a lot better with any of ...
