I also measured my birch ply, and it IS 18mm !
 Well I measured it again, and it's 17.5mm ... so this accounts for 2mm out of the 6mm discrepancy.

Meanwhile more progress. Have to call a temporary halt now, owing to visitors next weekend !

Re: Nothing In Particular

Sorry Mark, I just couldn't help myself... Peach is a regular subject of discussion between me and my friend Brian ( who used to sell telescope mirrors ) - as in 'The full Peach' or 'Peached to the max' etc etc. But if you look at his website or blog, you can see how shockingly close he gets to the...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

I have had a very good look at it. The panel at the back ( front face of the rear horn mouth ) is about 5.5°, so that one is in the calc coming up from the bottom panel. Elsewhere the corrections are things like the cosine of 1.5° which is so close to 1.0 , it does nothing. Anyway, it has all been d...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

Just spent about an hour puzzling over dimensions here, with a ruler and calculator. Something doesn't work out. http://www.hm-moreart.de/101.htm ( Page 2 ) The horizontal dimensions around the bottom bends of the two horn paths ( the 53, 43, 48, 67 and the 125mm end pieces ) ultimately have an erro...

Re: GM70 PP

A while back, I'd concluded from a bit of searching that the GM70 was very well behaved on grid current and could go at least to 0v bias without problems.

Good stuff.
You've just reminded me that I should look again for Peter Gabriel's first album. So far whenever I've looked in shops it's always the 2nd and 3rd ones that you see.

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

And yes, the correct terminology continues to be "fishtail" and the design has been a feature of tail pipes from the earliest times. Difficult to tell whether it back-loads the horn system to any degree is debatable as the fundamental frequency is remarkably low to begin with and as the valves boun...

Re: Direct Drive - any advantage to coreless motors?

Nice unit ! I think that most people that really listen would be at odds to say what the sonic contribution of a specific technology is. I would disagree. Having had a few decks of different types over the years, I would say that it becomes fairly obvious that the low bass and timing are mainly affe...
