Re: CV4003 / ECC82 types...

I'm currently using Sylvania JAN 6189 as the phase splitter in my power amp. They seem quite good, I have a pair of Mullard CV4003 in the drawer as I marginally prefer the sound of the 6189. They are a good bit cheaper than Mullards.

Re: House sound?

Well, I got some Beyer DT 880s 250 ohm in the end. I got to hear before purchase: Sennheiser 599s and 660s Meze 99 neo AKG 550s B&W P5 A pretty random selection but at least it gave me something to cross reference, against the reviews I was reading. I was expecting to like Sennheisers but actual...

Re: Disco Antistat and mods

I agree that a rinse is worthwhile but I have one machine.
Clean records and put on supplied draining rack, empty machine, refill with distilled water, rinse records and return to rack to dry.

Hello Chris,

Shure was not a brand I had considered.

Re: House sound?

Thanks for the offer Greg, Yours are a good bit more expensive than I'm looking at, but if I come to the conclusion that there is a company sound, they may still be worth a listen. I'll bare it in mind. DJSR, Thanks for the info, Sennheiser, if more mellow may be to my taste. I had seen the Grados b...

House sound?

I was considering getting some headphones for late night music & TV. I have no significant experience with h-phones but have been doing a bit of looking. I am very unlikely to be able to hear all the ones I might consider so my question is, do different makes tend to have a "house sound&quo...

Hi Stephen,

I have Elna Silmic II in that position, sound nice to me but not tried BG so can't compare.

Re: Is it still alive?

You could measure the value and the leakage current but that is a big dent. I wouldn't trust it, even if it measured OK.

Re: CD transport importance.

Hello Philip,

Yes, I had seen the Cambridge CXC. Even bearing in mind that yours is not yet fully run in, it does sound like any differences are fairly small so I think I will be going for the cheap option.

Thanks all. Phil.

Re: CD transport importance.

Thanks for the Reply, Well, as ever, by better I suppose I mean newer and/or more expensive. Like many people I expect, I have a modern DAC with a fairly old, budget(low mileage) CD player being used as a transport. Would a new budget CDP or even one of the cheaper dedicated transports available, be...

CD transport importance.

Hello all, What does anyone think about this? Obviously (I assume) a better transport will sound better, but how much. All the attention seems to be on DACs but there rarely seems to be any discussion about how much difference a transport can make. Is this because the answer is "not very much&q...

Re: Ant's Latest Lenco Build

A lovely looking conversion.

With a standard top plate, the simple solution is to move the arm across before you switch the motor on, although that is no help if your arm doesn't have a cue mechanism.

Hello Ben, If you look at the diagram, the +ve input to the crossover only goes to 2 places, the first (of 3) caps in the treble section and the series inductor for the bass section. Simply follow the track from the +ve input and you will find it, it is the one that is not an inductor ! As you give ...
