It doesn't all evaporate on its way through so you get a good indication of whether you've hit a blockage or n...

Apparently if she'd been born 15 minutes later she would have been called Kworta Eight.

Apologies to all for not coming back sooner and thanks for all your responses. I will be getting back to it soon. Its gone on the back burner for the moment as "my hobby room" has suddenly acquired a new title - "our spare bedroom". I am now putting down a new carpet and bed so a...

I've just started using a V15VxMR and am rather enjoying it - much more 3D than the DNM (Golding 1042 with knobs on) I have had most recently. I don't get Graeme's brittle or harsh but then it is in a SME 3009 which is reputedly a little soft itself. I find it very fast and very deep (Hz-wise and st...

Noisy, unusable phonostage

Hi all, A while ago I scratch built a Hagerman Cornet valve phono stage. It turned out to be very musical while having a bit of a mains hum that was not just about audible when not actually playing music. This was with a MM cartridge with a healthy 6mV output. However I changed cartridge to one with...

We just got back from marriage guidance. The counsellor asked me if I knew what my wife's favourite flower is. "Course I do," I said, "it's Homepride.". :?

If there's nothing obviously wrong with your wiring then I would go back to the static theory. I have a pair of shoes I daren't use if I'm driving. The static shocks I get closing the door after getting out are just like a stab of mains. If I'm lucky i'll see the blue spark as well! To quote Mr Spoc...

I had the same problem. I was beginning to doubt my ears! Annoying isn't it. So I stuck my DVM across the speaker terminals. Set to measure vAC on a track that had a reasonably consistent volume I was able to take a rough peak level reading on one side then repeat in the other side. I now know I can...
