Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.
Congrats they look beautiful, fully retro as you wanted. iI wish I had time to do a semi omni cube version with two drivers for each cab one on the top. Anyway how does the spud amp change things from the NVA clone. I heard at Owston so I have my opinion but I think things have progressed since then...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
There are no explanations beyond your ears and your music, go back to them and you may be surprised at what you change. All I do is use my ears and my music, and it gives me *ways* to do things often involving very lateral thought referred to convention. People have a choice, listen or ignore, do yo...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
They don't follow the same rules, so unless you say to which you are referring so the confusion that happened here will happen again. I perfectly understand why he does it his way for pro gear.
Re: Doc Mods
I am now making my dem Doc Mods available for loan to anyone wanting to to mod existing speakers to NVA principles, and to show what those changes achieve The donor units were B&W standmounts with 8 inch bass driver. Now steel lined, no crossover (just tweeter protection), no wadding, doped driv...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
Chum - you just want conflict, sorry mate I wont oblige. Show me where I said I am "clearly the expert on all things speaker-design", I have opinions and LOADS of experience. You are absolutely wasting your time quoting physics or charts at me, I will just laugh. There are very few things ...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
Per usual complete lack of understanding and twisting what I am recommending. It is the same with every other filter, mechanical or electrical used in audio, what I am saying is if you don't need it don't use it. And I stated that Steve Cresswell had discovered this and tried to tell his son (from c...

Then try taking it out.Greg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 8:10 pmSweeping statement. it depends on application. My sealed midrange chambers are well stuffed with long hair wool. They sound anything but woollen. More like crystal clear and musically transparent.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 2:39 pm Wool does nothing inside a speaker but make them sound woollen.

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
I was talking to Chris not you - So you are telling me I have no right to put my opinion but Chris has. It has nothing to do with steel plate, that is a solution to bad material cabinets like MDF and chipboard, yours aren't, they are marine ply I think. You can increase mass or increase stiffness, p...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
And I have said it is obviously not a good box and explained the reasons. If wadding *cured a problem* then it was bad design in the first place in order to have the problem. A cure is no where near as good as prevention, as with medicine, as with any form of design. Wadding is a mechanical filter t...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
1/ what has this got to do with music, stoooopid charts again. 2/ ported enclosure, that fecked it for a start. 3/ depends on the cabinet, you didn't line it with steel or tiles as an alternative to wadding so how do you know. 4/ convention says add wadding so everyone does, listening to music tells...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker
Wadding is daft, just a mechanical filter that will damage musical phase. The cure if you need one is to brace or line the cabinets with a rigid material like tiles or steel plate. I think it is just run in, the drivers need to loosen up.

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.
Lots of information dropped with the spud amp, spacial especially, but sounded very nice. Information and clarity and space and valve so called character for the addicted or brainwashed then build an overpowered OTL and make sure it doesn't burn the house down

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.
Dem tingies is a bit special, not perfect but brilliant value, and do all the important things. Good with the NVA clone, well very good, but jaw dropping good with that OTL.
