Re: what are you doing ?

Well i did well I got through 1 side of an lp i wanted to listen to before having to turn it off. because everyone came in wanting something, moaning about unimportant things, talking to each other at 100db despite being three feet away from each other, rowing over who was going on what computer ec...

Re: what pcb design software

I've been very slow to pick this up...and appreciate I've only scratched the surface, but I have got somewhere, I think. I got some results with designspark, having discovered the beauty of 'library loader' which transfers part details to the circuit builder. But... I was thrown by the transfer of s...

Re: what are you doing ?

after much sparring with designspark I got some gerber files and am waiting for a response from the Chinese pcb fabricators....

I'm not sure it was any easier than drilling paxolin, I will reserve judgement.

Re: what pcb design software

I couldn't get kicad to work......3 attempts to download and install and it keeps locking up win10. I then tried zenit suite and that wouldn't run either... I'm back to designspark...but I can't get the transition from circuit to pcb...although I've put in the RS part numbers on the component values...

what pcb design software

I'm just curious what people use, and if there are any useful observations.

I tried designspark a few years ago and very quickly got confused and went back to drilling paxolin.
I've decided to have another go and I'm currently trying kicad, hoping I'll have more patience....we'll see

The thing that i was commenting on is the fact that the squeezebox into the topping dac sounds fine, but the cd transport into the topping dac sounds different.
Oh...my bad, I did misunderstand, apologies!

Re: Dac for an arcam delta 170.3 transport

too many variables! I may have missed the subtle change in the direction of the discussion here. and haven't we been over this, and then over it some more....Ant's original post was to do with the fact that this set up doesn't sound like the previous set up....or am I missing the premise here????? W...

Re: MAC addresses

I love that SHINE can be omitted from electrical appliances. It would seem that these openreach brothers are not on the case with propper English either...snigger..perhaps they've got a crack team of editors in head office that are underused..

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

during the resuscitation of the studio I came across some really old stuff in the archives, so I thought I'd share and let you have a laugh on me:

It should stream, at least it did for me, so you can stop it early if it offends.

The very first time I've seen the RAF brothers show up on flightradar24. There were 2 hawks over the Yorkshire dales having done sorties around Scotland and half a dozen hawks over Snowdonia...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion

Digi synths have long been into the realm of using samples, Maybe, but showing my age, but something I spent a lot of time with, the DX7 wasn't analogue and didn't play samples. My memory wont oblige but I think my sy77 was the successor generation to the DX7 and brought in the era of sampling synt...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion

it may be possible to open a can of worms here...... To the best of my knowledge(it's limited) analog synths are restricted to generating the sound with oscillators and as far as mimicking orchestral instruments is concerned, a bit of a nono. The purists, I beleive, are all in the modernist camp. Th...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion

I’ve been thinking a bit more about this dsd thing. I’ve been messing with the studio(first time in ages) in the hope of laying down a couple of new songs, tracked at 192khz, to enable mastering directly to dsd for comparison. It occurred to me that I usually record the piano via midi, using one of ...

2 way layout

Does anybody know why the usual layout for a 2 way speaker is tweeter on top? The setup with my monitors on their stands puts the driver at ear level(or thereabouts) with the tweeter about 2 or 3 inches above. I've just turned the speakers upside down, basically because every time I stand up I get a...
