Re: MoFo

Any chance of a pointer; as I haven't got any suitable chokes it probably makes sense to get something cheap and, possibly(?) better. Only problem is I'm down in the South West. I bought the XB-800-2024 MOTs off slease-Bay from here and he offers free shipping that's great for very heavy items, (2 ...

Sacrilege

PWM controller with temp sensor on the water from China, so then we'll see how much dissipation can get out of one of these things without too much noise.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

Well I'm listening to my vinyl for the first time in 2 years, (the dust gives it away). Chance to listen to my 2016 and 2017 Xmas presents. Forgot what I was missing.

Re: Owston '19 what are you bringing

41MP pre-amp and Mo-Fo solid state power amp. Updated phono stage if I get round to it.

p.s. I thought it was a good idea suggested last year where the same pieces are played on each system.

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

While trying to reduce the hum, I am also trying to tidy up the wiring. I have 2 parts to the removal top plate. The front half contains the VR tubes, and the back half the triodes. I am thinking of having some form of links or jumpers on the top, but being exposed needs to be safe (180Vdc) and also...

Blast - beat me to it.

I think I might have used Electrical and electronic principals - John Bird at Uni?

Re: Wanted: large film foil caps

Thanks to Colin for his time and hospitality today at Topp's Towers. It was extremely enjoyable listening to his varied speakers from the open baffles, Edingdales, and finally his Monacor SP-310CX Coaxial Driver MLTL's. Very interesting picking out the marked differences and strengths of each type. ...

I would be interested in what temp the heatsinks get to.

Re: MoFo

Distortion falls as bias current is increased but might a higher Idss also provide an audible difference (I remember increasing the current with 6SN7s in SRPP made a huge audible improvement, at least to my ears)? More current means more heatsink so it's not a cheap/easy thing to do if it's unlikely...

Re: MoFo

Time to stop meddling and do some listening. If this were a boxing match, I am quickly heading towards the heavyweight division at an unexpected 18kg for just 12.7W. Additions include microwave transformers, moving original chokes into the power supply and film filter caps as suggested by Nick, (onl...

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

Are you suggesting inductive coupling between the power and output tx's? They are as far apart as I can get them - the power tx at the front on the bottom level, the output txs right at the back on the upper deck. So about 5 to 6 inches. Can you use something like a Faraday screen with an inductive ...

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

So I am now up and running with my Niobium pre-amp and MoFo power amp, and results are very promising after changing pre-amp bias RC to Takman/Cerafine. But I have a hum, potentially the summation of three sources: 1. There is a slight hum when I switch on the power amp. This can only be heard when ...
