Re: Snail Phono Pre

Based on a few of Nick's posts, I have ordered one of these inverse RIAA cards: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173886602640?ul_noapp=true I get how I can sweep through the frequency range using a sine wave input and measure the output of the phono to determine if I have a flat response. But I have also ...

Re: Snail Phono Pre

I'm pretty sure I copied the output cap/resistor detail from the WAD Phono 2/3 design where they used an ecc83 as a cathode follower. The Audio Note M7 phono employs a 6072 triode output and there is no series output resistor. Edit - also the AN M7 6072 output triode doesn't use a grid stopper either.

Re: Snail Phono Pre

Can't believe it's so long since I considered changes to my Snail phono/pre, but now that I have my new 41MP pre-amp, time to review the phono section. 1st part is to increase my supply voltage by 20V allowing me to increase the currents, particularly the 6072 section at 2.5mA per triode. Could I si...

Re: MJ Statistical Regulator PCBs

I'm thinking about my 2 stage phono amp.

Seeing that there is a group buy of the Salas shunt pcbs on DIY Audio, how would these and the Salas regulators compare for a phono application?

Re: Attendees Owston 1/2 June 19

Thanks Steve for organising once again. I think there was more varied and good sounding kit/systems than I can remember. From high end digital sources to great looking turntables, digital/ss/valve amps and a huge selection of differing approaches to speaker design.

Is it hum (50Hz) or does it have edges? (100Hz+charging)
I think it's 100Hz and it starts immediately upon power-up with the inputs grounded. So I think it is induced but wouldn't mind if someone could have a look at Owston and advise before I embark on some psu changes.

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

Still got some changes to the psu planned, tidying up and rearranging to do. But just fitted one of these pots that I think Phil found on the WD Forum. With only 23 steps, I've fitted a switch to select the output tx windings between 100 and 30% to give finer volume control: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i...

Re: MoFo

Yes a volt or 2 would increase the output power, silly wasting it as heat.

Anyway had time today to bolt on some additional heatsinks, and also fit the Jantzen Superior caps.

So should be ready for Owston with slightly more power, reduced distortion, and sounding better using the decoupling caps.

Re: Attendees Owston 1/2 June 19

I ended up buying some Jantzen Superior caps after talking to Colin and listening to a few of his speakers. I'm not sure these would offer a significant upgrade to the ones I bought, but thanks for the thoughts.

Just need to get them fitted to the MoFo and burnt in before Owston.

Re: Zingali Overture 2 For Sale

Whether you liked them or not, these are the same as I have brought to Owston on several occasions.

Obviously if they sounded sh**e, may have been down to my amplification, but recall some liked them with my 41MP/KT66 Rocky amp.

1st time out for 18 months around the Cheshire lanes. Building up to retirement. Had to have a comfort stop at Swan with Two Nick's, so rude not to have a pint in the sun.

Re: MoFo

How goes the MoFo project Mike (little eddy)? All's good, so much so I have a couple of 'upgrades' in mind but just want to listen. I have a smaller pair of 150mm heatsinks that I want to bolt to the current ones so I can either run them a little cooler, or increase the current to around 2A. Saying...

What a difference! Rounded corners look so good.
Must admit, I liked the look of the Norge speakers in one of the earlier posts.
