IME.... Measuring caps in situ can sometimes give false results I've found Max, if you can unsolder one leg to isolate each cap you'll be sure to be measuring only that one cap and not anything else in the cct. Bought this in 1969. Been clearing out the loft and there it was: the first semiconductor book I ever bought... Heaven only knows why, 51 years later, there it is... One pound and 5 shillings... Just thought that this was cool... German artist Simon Weckert tricked Google Maps into thinking there was a massive traffic jam by pulling around a cart with 99 smart phones in it... So, anyone using Google Maps as their GPS route planning system was routed away from the area he was in... Result? ...

I would look at modifying it so that the 6550's become reliable. E.g. reduce the anode current or whatever. I am guessing the problem may be voltage rather than current, and reducing the current is likely to cause the voltage to increase. Yes Mike, something a long those lines but someone else said...
