I suppose you could just put a washer under the veneer and put the magnets in the grill... Hi Shane that's not a bad idea at all. We have tried that in the past but you have to be careful depending on the veneer chosen as some can have a chemical reaction if the ferrous washer isn't first coated. C...

I've used this method for years now and only ever had a problem with discolouration of the first pair I did. I'd rather have a little discolouration than use fugly plastic bobbins, so will carry on using this method which is a neat way of attaching the grilles. I guess you could fit magnets to the e...

Hi Chris I have some initial measurements which I've included below...First Raw response, then 1/3 octave smoothed which glosses over some of the anomalies but at least indicates roughly where they're headed! LF is not that accurate for the sub 30Hz region as the speaker was too close to wall bounda...

New build...big bass from a pint pot?
Just tinkering with various designs recently, I decided to have a pop at another 2-way, this time using some very high quality drivers (Scanspeak revelator mid woofer and Illuminator tweeter). Don't want to go down the road of choked port design, so optimised cab volume and port for the best comprom...

I build speakers too.... it's a psychosis, don't you think? Absolutely it is. I've designed several pairs this year including some large corner cabs for Tannoy drivers and built two pairs but have another two new designs in the pipeline for a small 2-way and a large 3-way. It becomes somethin...

Hi Reffc, Your speakers are just beautiful! I really admire your woodworking skills and the contrasting color of the vertical rails on the baffle. I would love to drop in for a listen but I'm across the pond in the USA. Outstanding project! Charlie Many thanks Charlie, appreciated! They're actually...

The lower response is a little odd, but it is not flat to 20Hz (look again). It should shelve off steeply from 30Hz and I'm looking into the mic calibration files to see if there's an anomoly there, as I suspect that is where the optimistic results close to 20Hz stem from. As for the rest of it, it...

Nice job, Paul. Have their been any changes since we heard your prototypes at mine earlier this year? Hi Greg. Yes. Loads of development work has gone into them since then totalling a few hundred hours. Crossovers have been fine tuned following extensive acoustic measurement to get them sounding se...

Nice design and build Col. Cabs remind me of a narrower pair of my Ref Fidelios. FWIW, I toyed with the idea of using a similar veneering method to you but have never had much luck with larged curved surfaces using iron on, even with additional glue backing. I found that using bespoke curved formers...
