they are in a random pattern when seen from above the top plate
I very much doubt that.
Allright, so I was exaggerating! :D

Re: Remember These?

Just a note about grid stoppers for Ray.
I put a wire link in the 10K position on the driver PCB and put the grid stopper resistors right up against the grid pin on the septar socket.

Re: The Inverted OTL

Aye, the 13E1 as a single ended OTL amplifier is just a gorgeous sounding thing. I can't imagine being without it, so I'm going to have to scrounge a few 13E1s up to keep it going for as long as possible.

Re: The Inverted OTL

I was chatting to Chris V on the phone today , and he alerted me to an article I's never read before. Reading it kind-of blew my mind. The genius of Steve ( as was ) Bench, again : http://diyaudioprojects.com/mirror/members.aol.com/sbench102/inverted.html Needs reading carefully, such a weird conce...

Re: Remember These?

Had the amp on the 'scope earlier this afternoon and have managed to further tweak up the squarewave response. I mean, it needs to be on its best behaviour for Owston n' est ce pas? Have changed out the 10K carbon comp grid stoppers for 2K2. This has given sharper corners on both the leading and tra...

Re: Yet Another OTL

Just got a pair of Impulse H2, I'd bring them if I had room in the car, but they're a bit on the large side.. :D Now you're talking! OTOH I'm quietly looking forward to hearing a load jazz trios and girly guitar stuff. I've got a Chesky CD somewhere. It'll be like Eggborough 1 all over again. Ahh.....

Re: Remember These?

Aye, just a bit more to do with the cosmetics of the top plate before Owston. All them bolt heads give me the willies. :) I hope they are all in line with each other ? That's the trouble, they are in a random pattern when seen from above the top plate. Maybe I'll embrace chaos and not cover t...

Re: Yet Another OTL

It'll be a soft Owston this year unless either Nick brings his hairy arsed monoblocks, or Steve has built some 107dB/W speakers he's not telling us about

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

Had a go today with my pair of 10" Faital Pro 10FE200 bass/mid drivers in series with the main full ranger, to get a 16 Ohm load for the OTL. Worked alright. The plan is to put the ten-incher in the base of the speaker cabinet and fire it at the floor. That way I should get some bass reinforcement a...

Re: The Nemesis 813 PP Amplifier

The 6V6 is a stonkingly good valve. I had it triode strapped, driving the JJ 2A3-40s in my pink SET. Sounded sweet and detailed.
GE, JJ and 1950s Mazda (French variety) were the best performers.

Re: Remember These?

Is this going to Owston? Providing it doesn't blow up before the beginning of June, it'll be going to Owston. I think it is the bees knees, but then I would wouldn’t I. :D I've got a little idea to do with the Fanes too; an idea which Steve S suggested might have potential, last time I visited him....

Re: Remember These?

And a couple hours down the line and the OTL is putting out some fab tone. These Jupiter Astron caps have not been used for a couple of years, so I suspect, they needed a thorough warming through in order to show once again, their true colours. Well they certainly get warmed through in this amp :). ...
