Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

There's nothing special about D2 . Both types get converted to 25(OH)D and then I think to another form which I've forgotten the name of. D3 is reckoned to be slightly more effective than D2, as it's closer to what the body creates from sunlight. I believe D2 is made by exposing mushrooms to light, ...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

I've always used the Turbo trainer on a porch that is roofed but mostly open to the air. Sweat would definitely be a problem at almost any effort level, indoors. i did use to use rollers indoors when I first moved to Wales and was in a holiday cottage during the winter, but it was a very cold house,...

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

Diet's fine mate. Depends how much alcohol and tea/coffee you drink. We can't all be perfect :) Clearly, if your excuse is tea, coffee and alcohol, your diet isn’t fine. I don’t know, but I suspect you are a rigid vegetarian? Ha - no, I tried that in a half-hearted way in the late 80's and ended up...

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

So what’s your diet like? Surely the supplement should be just that, a supplement. A varied diet should provide just about all the zinc we need so I am given to understand. Taking a supplement and still being below the midline healthy level would concern me. Diet's fine mate. Depends how much alcoh...

Re: Transparent Telly

So, does it generate an opaque black pixel ( for the shadows ) ?
It has a pretty bold claim as regards contrast ratio.

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

Probably yes. It's one of the things they listed that Trump was given ... although that isn't a ringing endorsement. However it's easy to be short of it. I remember that studies of Chlorohydroquine showed it worked a lot better with Zinc added.... until eventually it was found that chlorohydroquine ...

Nice to have you here, seems like a good match.
Feel free to resurrect old threads, if you find anything you want to discuss. We don't have any silly rules against that sort of thing.

Re: Transparent Telly

Sounds like a gimmick that will have a certain lifespan. As an optical designer, I'd tape a piece of flocked black paper behind it !

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

He he ! I saw something rather like this but in orange, on an early-70's Woodrup bike at their workshop -owned by the guy who built my frame. I've got a bag of saddles in the cupboard under the stairs. Maybe I should clean them up and have an EBay spree. I've just been out for the usual run up to Ll...

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

Temperature has no proven link to Vitamin D levels, Nick. It's all about UV-B. Diet will help but is rarely enough. It's known that many people in hot sunny countries like Spain and the Middle East rarely go out in the sun, especially in the middle of the day, so are vitamin D deficient as a result....

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

I just don't accept your arguments, I'm sorry. Ps. establishing the RDA for most vitamins has not required clinical trials, as far as I'm aware. It's just the way medicine has gone in recent decades, that we have to treat this as if it's a drug. Meanwhile thousands of people will die unnecessarily t...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

:D I think that's a bit too ostentatious for what I have here at the moment ! Getting this mouth section ready for fitting has been a pain. The trimming of the fibreglass edges on the firbreboard has been messy and painful. I'm just try to finish this off but need either varnish or filler to help co...

Re: Some thoughts on Vitamin D, flu, etc

Very good news they are going to look into this more seriously. About time, too ! Which trial are you referring to? There was a very small French or Spanish one which I'm aware of, but that was a very small sample at a single hospital. Whilst good circumstantial evidence, it certainly wouldn't pass ...
