Re: GM70 PP

I assume because the choke isn't shielded from the steep dV/dt slopes from the rectifiers, the choke sees greater current swings, and hence the max flux it has to cope with must rise. Hence bigger core required. Probably also higher insulation rating, if that requires any change, though I suspect mo...

Re: DIY Linear Tonearm

Vic bits below. As I remember it, I took it out of use because the floating carrier for the arm was rubbing against the channel in a couple of places. I suspected the ali channel had warped slightly due to being epoxied to the wood. I wondered if a bit of a re-grind using the carrier and some carbor...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Stop donating LP's to Oxfam then, that's disgraceful.
They overprice their stock as well, any that have any value.

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

Further fettling has yielded some rewards. I managed to get some 1mH air-cores with 1mm wire ( 0.4R) Now I have a slightly lower high-pass on the ribbons , with 3.9uF/1mH into them, About 3kHz I think, the slope is transitional in that it's 1st-order around 3kHz but steepens to 2nd-order lower down....

Re: DIY Linear Tonearm

Acrylic is a good material , go for that if you can get it at a reasonable cost. On the motor, just think about what you need from this. It needs to be smooth for HiFi, low-cogging, it's not just about torque. ps. if you want any bits from an old air-bearing arm I used, early version of Vic's trans-...

To be fair the snow is a few miles out of town here. However the neighbours have just come back from Oswestry where there was snow at ...
