Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

Hi Wolfgang. I'm not suggesting any equivalency, just that there are options for experimenting with DSD. At the end of the day it always comes down to what sounds best for the individual and for me personally that's DSD via HQPlayer, which is why I'm working on a DSD decoder for my main system and m...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Anyway, I bagged 150miles for the week this morning with a 36.5mile jaunt before breakast - out onto the levels before a 1000ft climb at the end. It also took me over 10,000ft of climbing for the week*. My reward was an extra 25g of muesli when I got home. *Do not attempt this at home if you've only...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Just teasing...

Very nice Shed project result Mr. Bass, just a shame about the reflection!

I didn't mention that during my Friday ride I kept on encountering 'vintage' motorcycles, at least a coupe of dozen of them I would guess. Maybe there was some sort of event down here.

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

I hope I don’t upset anybody or go too much “off-topic” with this comment but in my limited understanding the strength of the Soekris R-2R DAC lies in the possibility to adjust the balance between low pass filter linear phase and (unavoidable) passband ripples which can be described as pre- and pos...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

...bought a very nice and sensible hybrid bike by Giant. Is that sensible as in not a fixie!? BTW, what's a King Tubby dub, is it like that old kids thing, rubadubdub three men in a tub... Good ride there Mr. Bass. So much better for you to be out of the shed and into the fresh air; oh wait, you li...

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

I'm back in business. The new Cronus checked out and I've now got the BBB playing music (at DSD512) as an HQ Player NAA (network audio appliance). So now I need to proceed to hooking up the DSD board to the Cronus.

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

It's a shame I was too much of a numpty to find the problem with my reclocker in time to get it finished for Owston; it would have been interesting to demo it at DSD256 and/or DSD512 and see what people think. My personal experience is that I prefer DSD, which is why I'm working on this project. I m...

Re: Chinese Loudspeaker Drive Units

Thanks for posting John, could be something to keep an eye on as I think a speaker project is coming to work with the flea-power SE-OTL amps... I'll have a proper look at the website and Lenco forum later, if only to try and get the basic impedance/efficiency parameters as they're not obvious to me ...

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

Anyway, back to the DSD project. The DIY Audio member who has been developing the DSD decoder project is very much in the opensource camp and has placed gerber files for the latest version in the public domain; it's basically the same as mine but with integrated isolation and reclocking for the outp...

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

In the digital world there is no instant. I'm not sure there is in the everyday real world either. Taking Ed's example of the orchestral crescendo with an abrupt silence, although we hear it as an instantaneous silence it won't be really, not least because even the best drilled musicians will have ...

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

That's because a multi national task force (US + UK + Parcelthief) are trying to work out how much to charge you for import duty and VAT on a FOC item. Yes, I think so Phil. They stitch you up every way. If you put zero value on the customs form they refuse to offer insurance, if you put a va...

Re: Latest DSD Decoder Project

The tracking data shows that the replacement Cronus reclocker arrived at Heathrow on Monday - it's still there! That's longer than it took to get from the US to the UK. Grrr...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

I have a day off today and headed out for a recce of the forthcoming Tour of Somerset charity ride - I rode the first half, which takes in West Somerset where it's rather lumpy. It was a hard ride but I'm pleased with how I did; Starts in: Taunton Deane, England, GB Distance: 61.5 mi Elevation: + 57...
