Heads-up - Daphile

I thought I'd share a new discovery I made last week, which looks good enough to be a perfect solution to what I've been looking for in a music server for literally years. The application is called Daphile - the link is here: https://www.daphile.com/ and there is a big thread over on diyaudio about ...

Re: Remember These?

Oh and it was great to see Dave and Meredith, this afternoon. Some great music and great company. :) Cheers Steve, it was a great way to spend a windy Sunday afternoon, thanks so much for your hospitality, and the tea, and the cheese and biscuits - all were delicious! It's quite amazing, hearing to...

https://i.imgur.com/YAZoQeQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wNHtts8.jpg No, they're not finished. I was hoping though, by the end of tonight, that I'd have been able to get all of the panels bolted together on both of them so that I'd have an idea of what they'd look like when finished, as a sort of proof ...

Re: A Bluetooth speaker

Thanks very much for the input everyone - certainly something to chew on. My inclination is to go for the simpler Bluetooth boards I think. But many things need to be done before I get to this.

Re: Remember These?

I'd really love to hear these actually Steve, and I'm back in Chesterfield this weekend - as we won't have a presence in the North for very much longer, am I OK to pop over on Sunday? With these, and Ray's 13E1 build as well, and my Beasts (surely I'll get them finished this year) we'll have quite a...

A Bluetooth speaker

We spent Christmas in a remote holiday cottage and very fine it was too. Although there was a TV, we spent each evening listening to music, as there was a Bush Bluetooth speaker and an internet connection. A smartphone with Qobuz provided the missing link. I’ve often explored possibilities for music...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

and I've been banned from bringing my soldering iron with me. That is so unreasonable isnt it? I remember being mildly scolded or bringing Airfix kits on holiday once when I was a kid, like the holiday was supposed to be a break from all that sort of stuff. What? No gotta have my Airfix fix! ...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

I don't think this is going to get done by the end of the year. We're going away for the Xmas week and I've been banned from bringing my soldering iron with me. Anyways... here is tonight's progress. Linking the anodes of each pair (pin 6 unused) with the G2 stopper resistors (5W Kiwames). https://i...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

Where is the fuse located in each o/p valve circuit? I only ask because of having used a fuse in each speaker line, I could hear it and it sounds bad, interestingly even if it's put in a HT supply line, the same, unless there's a supply smoothing capacitor after it to kill the effect. It's somethin...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

Yep, fuse holders. There are LEDs behind each one which go out if a fuse blows - very handy thing as OTLs do blow them on occasion. It was the only Transcendent amp to have that feature.

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

Correct, I should have said EL509S. I had one in front of me just to make sure and there was physically no pin 1.

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

Well these things always take three times as long as you think. Today's progress - heater wiring. I took an executive decision on this one. The photo shows the instructions for how to wire up the EL509 heaters - it uses a heater transformer with 12volt secondaries so the heaters are connected in ser...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

I think you're probably right Ray.

So my plan for today is to wire up the output stage of the one which is orientated the same way as the one in the instructions. Then I'll have a model that I can 'map' onto the reversed one. Let's see how far I get...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

This is quite a nice thing to look at - it's a skeletal top-down view from the CAD model showing how everything is laid out for mirror imaging. The ventilated covers are there to hide the stuff that isn't symmetrical! Clever. The same, but turned around. Indeed, although confusingly I haven't turne...
