Re: Rozenblit 300B SEOTL 1.5W

So are you saying that the latest edition of Tubes and Circuits has the 6W Pinnacle, instead of the SE circuit? I have the early version of the book with the SE circuit in, but I am more interested in the Pinnacle circuit, which I thought was only available as a kit. Why don't we just swap copies - ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

I must admit I've been holding out up until very recently with halogens, and some pearl incandescent bulbs that I stockpiled just before the last lightbulb ban in 2009. Light quality is very important to me, and the only real alternatives back then were were CFL's (or halogens). I never came across ...

Hopefully I'll have my big OTLs built by then.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Another EL509 valve gave up the ghost literally 5 minutes before the England v Sweden match started and I'd run out of spare valves, so I had to watch it on crappy TV speakers, which are just the worst speakers in the world. OK so the fact we won two nil took some of the sting out but the experience...

Thermonic. Full system, new amps + metronomes
Sorry, new OTL amps aren't finished yet. I'll just be bringing the AMB linestage with me this year, could bring the Transcendent 15W OTL again if anyone's interested but it's been heard a couple of times before. We'll do the full system next year.

Confirmed for Meredith and myself on just the Saturday but I think we're both on the list already. I'll just be bringing the linestage along.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Oh dear. Popped a fuse in the 15W OTL output stage last night. Cause: not a faulty tube. One too many Tequilas and an AC/DC record turned up a little bit too loud. Maplins no longer exists so got to go all the way to RS in Nottingham this afternoon for some more fuses, so we can use the amp tonight.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Walked into the living room this morning and saw, behind the mantle clock on the window sill between the Metronomes, a plump, speckled brown bird. Well, at first it was just my eyes that saw it, it took a while for my brain to catch up with the reality of "there's a bird in the living room". My firs...

Re: Broskie phono stage circuit - a few questions

Problem solved. The PC version of the Kindle reader will expand images to fill the screen if you expand the reading window - complete with better resolution. For some reason, the Mac version won't. :? So we've got around the problem by having Meredith bring up the image on her PC, screen shot it, th...

Re: Broskie phono stage circuit - a few questions

Ugh - why did I buy the Kindle version of the latest Morgan Jones? WHY? Figure 7.49 which shows the circuit diagram with component values - kinda critical if you want to try building it - is too low-resolution for the component values to be legible. Thank you Amazon (or whoever was responsible for t...

Re: Broskie phono stage circuit - a few questions

Also found, on this very site, a similar thread from Paul Barker a couple of years ago exploring balanced phono stages - as well as the Wright, it seems that the latest Morgan Jones (which I have on Kindle) has a balanced hybrid RIAA circuit too which looks quite similar. The advantage of the latter...

Re: Broskie phono stage circuit - a few questions

Thanks everyone - esp. Nick for giving me some figures to start off with. Appreciate the input. I posted in Beginners because I realised I knew very little about FETs - valves I have a far better handle on. I know I'm being a smidge ambitious - phono preamps are awkward buggers to get right at the b...

Broskie phono stage circuit - a few questions

The recent phono stage shootout got me thinking about them again and I've been looking at various circuits. This one caught my eye as seeming to be remarkably simple and elegant, it's one that Broskie posted on TubeCAD in 2015 and it looks like it's flown under the radar a bit - not sure if anyone h...

Re: Yorkshire Hi-Fi Club

Taken me a while to marshall my thoughts - not sure how much of value I have to contribute but I'll do my best :) For me, in the end there were just too many phono stages in the shootout to really get a meaningful impression of what I liked best - I got to the point of thinking 'you know, they all s...
